Four DMACC Perry welders compete in statewide contest

DES MOINES, Iowa — Four welding students from the DMACC Perry VanKirk Career Academy Welding Academy competed in the annual Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 33 High School State Welding Contest April 26.

The contest included 87 welders from school across Iowa. The competition was shielded metallic arc welding (SMAW) in all positions on plate as well as torch cutting.

Welders representing the VanKirk Welding Academy were:

● Kairi Hansen  of Woodward-Granger High School
● Brady Stucker of Woodward-Granger High School
● Jarron Cook of Ogden High School
● Isaac Lantz of West Central Valley High School

The competitors were led by DMACC Perry welding instructors Jim Von Behren and Brent Rowe.
