The name of the new microbrewery soon to fill the old home of the Mandarin Cafe was revealed at Monday night’s meeting of the Perry City Council: the Gamble Block Brewery.
The 120-year-old Gamble Block at 1203 Second St. in downtown Perry was acquired in January 2018 by the Sheffer family of Indianola, and its southern side opened as the Tin Pig Tavern in October 2019. The Gamble Block Brewery will now occupy the northern side.
David Sheffer shared the brew-pub news May 10 with the Perry Historic Preservation Commission, but he declined the reveal the name of the new business. The name was brought to light with the applications for beer permits by TPT Enterprises LLC, doing business as the Tin Pig Tavern, and Perry Brew Enterprises LLC, doing business as the Gamble Block Brewery.
The council approved the permits just as the historic preservation commission approved the design of the facade for the new microbrewery, including an overhang and new siding.
Don’t ugly up that front like the rendering.
Joe Warnock will rise from the grave and smite you if you do this.
