Greene County Sheriff’s Report Feb. 6

  • The Greene County Sheriff and two deputies, the Jefferson Fire Department, Grand Junction Fire Department, Paton Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol, Region 5 Hazmat and Greene County EMS responded to a three-vehicle accident on 220th Street and S Avenue. There was a semi hauling pigs traveling southbound on S Avenue, and it failed to stop, striking a semi hauling 8,200 gallons of gasoline in the center of the fuel tank and causing it to catch fire. The fuel trailer detached from the semi and struck a regular pickup. Two of the drivers were taken to the Greene County Medical Center, one with minor injuries and one with life-threatening injuries. The third driver was uninjured. The Iowa State Patrol is conducting the investigation.
  • Two Greene County Deputies, the Jefferson Fire Department and the Greene County EMS responded to a three-vehicle accident in the 2200 block of Neola Avenue. A semi was hauling hogs lost control and struck another semi hauling anhydrous. After the first impact, the truck hauling anhydrous struck an Iowa Department of Transportation plow. The accident is still under investigation.
  • A deputy responded to a car in the ditch with no damage and no injuries on N Avenue and 130th Street.
  • A deputy responded to a three-vehicle accident on N Avenue and 150th Street. Two of the vehicles were in the center of the lane. One of them tried to swerve and skidded sideways, causing the other vehicle to strike the second vehicle in the center of the vehicle. A third vehicle went into the ditch to avoid the other. There was one person with minor injuries taken to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County EMS.
  • A deputy assisted a motorist in the 1200 block of 220th Street.
  • A deputy assisted a motorist in the ditch on I Avenue just south of the County Line.
  • A deputy investigated a single-vehicle rollover in the 800 block of 240th Street. A 2002 Saturn was found in the ditch unoccupied. The vehicle was totaled.
  • A deputy assisted the Jefferson Police Department with an arrest in the 600 block of N. Cedar Street.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
