Harold grew up with his nine brothers and sisters and lived his entire life in Jefferson.

He worked for the Thermogray Company for several years until it closed. Harold made many friends during the years when he worked as a bartender for several establishments in Jefferson.

His love of and dedication to the University of Iowa Hawkeyes led to his nickname, “Hawkeye”. Harold held a membership in the I Club for many years and enjoyed his season football tickets. He also was a big fan of the Cleveland Indians.

His family remembers him with his transistor radio up to his ear, listening to a game, while watching another game on his television set. Harold would seem oblivious to those around him during those times!

Hawkeye could be seen walking to his destinations as he chose not to drive.

He had a 50-year friendship with Irene Mohr. They enjoyed fishing and going to the casino in Tama by bus.

Hawkeye liked to garden and produced wonderful vegetables that family and friends also enjoyed.
