Ogdenite Chet Hollingshead failed to win the Republican nomination for Boone County Supervisor in Tuesday’s primary election. The one-term county officeholder was outdistanced by Boone farmer Chad Behn, who captured 37 percent of the vote, and Boone banker Bill Zinnel, who took 34 percent.

Twenty-two percent of Boone County voters chose Hollingshead, and 5 percent voted for Taylor Tidgren. A total of 1,364 votes were cast in the Republican primary race for the county supervisor nomination.

Hollingshead rose to prominence in 2012 when he was elected to the three-member board at the age of 23, making him one of the youngest county supervisors in Iowa. He made headlines again a year later when he was arrested and later convicted of fourth-degree theft in an incident involving a tavern sign in Dayton.
