Services for Hubert “Herb” Thompson, 83, of Perry will be held Tuesday, March 27 at 12:30 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive in Adel.

Pastor Charles Compton of the Perry Bible Church will officiate, and military funeral honors will also be conducted. Hubert’s ashes will be interred in the columbarium wall at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

Herb passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at the Perry Lutheran Home in Perry, Iowa.

Hubert Earl Thompson was born May 9, 1934, the son of Joseph Earl and Gertrude (Anderson) Thompson in rural Story County, Iowa.

Herb graduated from Hubbard High School in 1952.

After attending college, he was inducted into the United States Army Oct. 7, 1954. and received his Honorable Discharge Oct. 3, 1956.

He married Shirley Ann Shaw Nov. 27, 1960, in Pitzer, Iowa. They lived for a time in New Richmond, Wis., before moving to Perry in 1974.

Herb was in sales working from an office or on the road during his whole working life. He sold agricultural chemicals to co-ops in the midwest region before his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Thompson of Perry; one daughter, Teresa Thompson of Prairie City, Iowa; one son, Bradley Thompson of Southaven, Miss.; three sisters, Marge Bourne of Ames, Norma (Marv) Holland of Ames and Grace (Roger) Engen of Ames one brother, Arnold (Marj) Thompson of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Everett Thompson; and a brother-in-law, Bob Bourne.
