Longtime Perry Public Works Director Jack Butler has been named the new manager of the Perry Municipal Airport, the Perry City Hall announced Wednesday.
Butler joined the city’s public works team in 1999. He was appointed the department’s director in 2005.
Butler thanked the Perry City Hall for entrusting him with management of the city’s airport and said he is excited to get started.
“I am looking forward to my new role as the airport manager and creating relationships with the tenants and visitors,” Butler said. “One of my goals is to get fly-ins regularly scheduled and engage the community with the airport through regular events, such as concerts, air shows or movie nights.”
Butler was praised by the Perry City Hall for his leadership and management skills and his commitment to the Perry community.
“Mr. Butler’s experience demonstrates strong leadership, project management skills, as well as a focus on positively engaging with the community,” said Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson. “The Perry Airport Commission and I are very excited for Jack to take this key role in helping the Perry Municipal Airport continue to grow and thrive.”
Peterson said Butler will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the airport, keeping tenants informed on airport matters, greeting visitors and supervising a range of improvement projects at the airport, including the ongoing construction of a new 5,500-foot runway to replace the 4,000-foot runway.
Future projects at the Perry Municipal Airport, the only public airport in Dallas County, include a parallel taxiway, ramp improvements, additional hangars and terminal improvements.
The city will conduct a search for a new director of public works.
