James Edward Hoffman, 74, of Polk City and formerly of Perry passed away April 29, 2023, at home, surrounded by family, following a seven-year courageous battle with cancer.

Jim was born Feb. 14, 1949, in Browns Valley, Minnesota, to Edward Hoffman and Agnes (Wika) Hoffman. He was the second of six children.

After graduating from Browns Valley High School in 1967, Jim then enlisted in the U.S. Army, eventually serving in Phu Bai, Vietnam.

Jim was united in marriage to Marcia Tieskotter on Aug. 5, 1972, in Decorah, Iowa.

He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1976.

Jim worked for Cargill/West Central for more than 30 years.

He enjoyed spending time with family and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s school activities and sporting events.

Left to cherish Jim’s memory are his wife of 50 years, Marcia Hoffman of Polk City; children, Sarah Hoffman of Polk City, Zachary (Wendy) Hoffman of Polk City and Jacob (Bridget) Hoffman of Iowa City; eight grandchildren, Noelle, Noah, Caleb, Isaac, Jory, Oliver, Skylinn and Jayden; siblings, Michael (Toni) Hoffman, Diane (Don) Heck, Rose Kaufman and Barbara (Ed) Hazelton; brother-in-law, Bill (Barb) Tieskotter; and sister-in-law, Shirley Usgaard.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Yvonne Kaufman.

In accord with his wishes, no services are planned. A Celebration of Life will be planned for the family this coming summer.
