CARROLL — Only five players scored for the Perry girls cagers Friday, but four of those hit for double-digit points to help carry the Jayettes to a 60-46 win over Carroll in Raccoon River Conference action.
Perry (3-0, 1-0) was in control throughout the contest. The guests opened a 16-9 lead after one frame and entered the intermission with a 35-20 advantage. The Jayettes led by as many as 16 points in the fourth quarter before the Tigers rallied to trim their deficit to nine, but that was as close as the hosts could come as Perry prevailed.
The more aggressive team on the floor, Perry was rewarded with 31 trips to the free throw line, where they sank 17 shots. Carroll was 8-of-14 at the stripe.
Emma Olejniczak nailed 10-of-13 free throws, including 8-of-9 in the second half en route to 12 points. Jo Diw led all scorers with 19 points, with Molly Lutmer adding 14 points and Grace Marburger 10. Five points from Grace Stewart capped the scoring.
Although not scoring, Perry received solid play off the bench from both Maddie West and Isabel Saemisch.
Lutmer drained two 3-pointers for Perry, with Marburger, Stewart and Diw each making one shot from beyond the arc.
Taylor Woosely led Carroll with 10 points, with Madi Lingle providing eight points and Karlee Jones seven.
The Perry girls will host Des Moines Christian tomorrow for a junior varsity/varsity set beginning at 1 p.m. They will rejoin the Bluejays in hosting DC-G Tuesday, with a trip to Carlisle on tap for Dec. 9.
