March 31, 2017

  • A traffic stop was performed at Lincoln Way and Pinet Street, resulting in Emily Finch being issued a citation for violations of conditions of restricted license.
  • An officer performed a funeral escort.
  • Paul Richardson reported a front end loader with steel tracks was driving on N. Cedar Street. The officer located the vehicle, which had rubber tracks that would not harm the roadway.
  • UnityPoint requested an officer conduct a welfare check on a subject in the 100 block of S. Grimmell Road. The officer coaxed the subject to the Greene County Hospital for a medical evaluation.
  • An officer started a burglary investigation after a report from the occupant at 903 W. Adams St. Evidence was gathered at the scene. Jewelry was removed during the crime.
  • Steve Chapman reported a parked vehicle blocking the alley in the 400 block of N. Locust Street. The vehicle was gone upon the arrival of the officer.
  • The business owner at 101 E. Lincoln Way reported receiving several prank phone calls from juveniles.
  • A caller advised of a possible intoxicated driver on 220th Street, traveling westbound toward Jefferson. The officer performed a traffic stop on the vehicle at 220th Street and M Avenue. The driver showed no signs of intoxication and was allowed to go on his or her way.

April 1, 2017

  • An officer assisted the Greene County EMS with a medical call in the 100 block of W. State Street.
  • Craig Berry reported a strong smell of natural gas in the northwest part of town. An officer did not find a source for the smell and believed it to be the smell of hog manure drifting into town.
  • An officer assisted with an unruly patient at the Greene County Hospital emergency room.
  • Officers checked on a residential burglary alarm activation at 903 S. Elm St. Everyone was present, and all was fine at the residence.
  • Tammy Binkley reported a male, possibly intoxicated, lying under some trees in Russell Park. The officer made contact with the male, who was not intoxicated but simply awaiting a ride from a friend to Panora.
  • Ricky Comer requested officers in the 100 block of W. Washington Street. Comer said a man he knows just spit in his face. An officer’s investigation led to the request for an arrest warrant for Timothy Martin Cadden, 48, of Jefferson for simple assault.
  • A woman said she left her bank card in the ATM in the 200 block of W. State Street. She said the card was gone when she returned to get it. She was advised to check with the bank during business hours and to watch her account for unauthorized charges.
  • Officers assisted the Greene County EMS with a medical call in the 500 block of N. Vine Street.
  • Tim Cadden requested officers pick up and dispose of a metal smoking device he had found in his garage.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 500 block of N. Grimmell Road, resulting in Shane Detlef Coil being issued a citation for failure to provide proof of financial liability.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 100 block of W. Washington Street, resulting in Samuel Carter being issued a citation for driving while suspended.

April 2, 2017

  • An officer assisted the Greene County EMS with a medical call in the 1000 block of W. Adams Street.
  • The A&W Restaurant at 300 N. Elm St. reported finding a wallet in the business. They requested an officer return it to the owner, which the officer did.
  • Officers were called to 404 W. State St. for a reported burglary. Evidence was gathered at the scene, where jewelry had been removed after entry was gained by prying open a door. Officers spoke to the residents about possible suspects in the recent rash of daytime burglaries occurring in Jefferson. The residents had a relationship with the person suspected by the police department. At about 6 p.m., Robert Fry, 53, of Jefferson, came to the Law Enforcement Center to speak with officers. Fry had returned jewelry to victims from the earlier reported burglary at 404 W. State St. At about 6:40 p.m., officers conducted a consent search of the Fry residence at 202 S. High St. Suspected narcotics and narcotic-related items were taken into evidence from the residence. An officer applied for arrest warrants for Fry for third-degree burglary, second-offense possession of a controlled substance/marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Officers continue to work the remainder of the burglaries reported in the past few weeks, which Fry was suspected of being involved in. Future charges are pending.
  • The Wild Rose Casino requested officers at 777 Wild Rose Lane for the theft of a purse from a customer. Security viewed surveillance footage and had a female suspect waiting for officers. The officers’ investigation led to the arrest of Faith Ann Kloss, 54, of Carroll for fifth-degree theft. Kloss was taken to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center to be booked into jail on the charge. Jail staff and officers located narcotics and paraphernalia in her belongings during the booking process. An officer tested the substance and added charges for possession of a controlled substance/methamphetamine.
  • A female reported she was assaulted by a known female in front of the business at 106 W. Washington St. An officer is waiting to view video footage of the event and is still investigating.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
