Jefferson Police Report August 5

August 2, 2019

  • Kayla McKown reported finding items left overnight on her trampoline at 307 E. McKinley St. The items did not belong to her. An officer took possession of the bike, karaoke machine and pogo stick.
  • Brandon Mitchell reported two tires were cut with a knife on his Dodge Caravan while parked overnight at 607 W. Monroe Street. The residence has outside surveillance cameras, and Mitchell will provide the officer with footage if located.
  • Brenda Ladd reported a careless driver on 220th Street, traveling west toward Jefferson. An officer located the vehicle and followed it for a while before performing a traffic stop with the vehicle. The officer spoke to the driver about the complaints.
  • Kathi Hoskins reported a careless driver on Iowa Highway 4, traveling north toward Jefferson. The officer locked his radar unit on the vehicle as it entered Jefferson at 53 mph in a 35 mph zone. A traffic stop was performed with the vehicle in the 200 block of S. Elm Street. The officer immediately smelled the strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver of the vehicle. The officer was not certified in implied consent and contacted another Jefferson officer to conduct the traffic stop. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Gisela Del Carmen Guerrero, 52, of Dawson for, second-offense OWI, failure to have a valid driver’s license, speeding and failure to carry registration card.
  • Mihles Exline reported a male consuming alcohol in a vehicle at 106 W. Washington St. An officer located the vehicle and followed it for several blocks. The officer did not witness any traffic violations before the vehicle reached a residence in town.
  • Derrick Roeder said his dog got loose from 1200 Westwood Drive. An officer did not locate the animal.

August 3, 2019

  • An officer witnessed a vehicle turn from Wild Rose Lane onto Iowa Highway 4 without using a turn signal. The officer performed a traffic stop with the vehicle on Iowa Highway 4 just north of the casino. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Brandon Lee Dodson, 33, of Webster City for driving while barred, operation without registration and failure to provide proof of financial liability.
  • Brandon Mitchell said two males threw rocks at his residence of 607 W. Monroe St. before running away. He provided the officer with a possible suspect. The officer did not locate anyone in the area and is still investigating.
  • Dakota Barrett requested an officer at 500 E. Clark St. for a civil rent issue. When the officer arrived, all parties said it had been worked out between them and no assistance was needed.
  • A caller reported a stray dog running near 1304 Ferguson Circle. An officer located the animal and placed it in the Jefferson Animal Holding Facility.
  • A traffic stop at 220th and Doreen Wilbur Drive resulted in Elsie Jablonski of Jefferson being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • Patrick Coil reported criminal mischief to his camper at 802 W. State St. Several windows were broken out with large rocks. The damage occurred sometime over the last week. Estimates to replace the broken windows are $450.
  • Meghan Bruggeman was issued a citation for excessive speed after a traffic stop at 220th Street and M Avenue.
  • Daryn Mallory reported criminal mischief occurred to his vehicle while parked in the alley at 108 1/2 E. State St. The 1995 Chevrolet S-10 had all the windows broken and all the tires slashed. The damage occurred since Aug. 2, 2019. Estimates for damage are $1,000.
  • Ritchie Burkhardt reported a stolen cell phone form 401 E. McKinley St. Burkhardt said an acquaintance was at this residence the day prior for several hours before the phone came up missing. Burkhardt provided the officer with the name of a witness, who told the officer she received a call from the suspect on Burkhardt’s cell phone. The officer is finishing up the investigation, and charges are pending at this time.
  • A local retail store reported two stray dogs near 606 Highway 30 East. An officer did not locate the animals.
  • Nikki Henderson reported she was scammed on a ticket sale over Facebook. She purchased Ozzy Osbourne tickets from a male on the site. She sent the money, but never received the tickets. An officer is investigating.
  • A Greene County Jailer advised an officer about a possible intoxicated female who just left the front counter of the Law Enforcement Center. The jailer provided the officer with a plate number and vehicle description. The officer located the vehicle and spoke to the driver, who showed no signs of intoxication and was allowed to go on her way.
  • A caller reported a private party occurring at the Jefferson Municipal Swimming Pool at 701 S. Maple St. The caller said an individual was jumping off the top of the slide into the pool. He was concerned the subject may be injured and the liability for the city. An officer went to the pool and learned the person who jumped from the slide was an employee and had been given permission to do so by the pool director.
  • Bruce Binkley requested an officer at 507 E. Garfield St. for his grandson, who was out of control. An officer arrived and spoke to the grandmother, who said the juvenile left with his other grandmother, and this was fine. She advised he was safe there. The officer spoke to the Iowa Department of Human Services about the incident because they are involved with the youth.

August 4, 2019

  • An officer removed a bat from the residence at 501 S. Vine St.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County Ambulance with a medical call in the 1200 block of Rushridge Road.
  • A local retail store reported an alcohol theft occurred at 106 W. Washington St. on the day prior. They provided the officer with surveillance video of the theft. The female in the video had been previously charged for the theft of alcohol and banned from the store but was allowed back to shop again. An arrest warrant has been requested for Janon Leslie Olson, 48, of Jefferson for fifth-dgree theft.
  • A local retail store reported a vehicle was abandoned for 24 hours near the diesel pumps. The keys are in the vehicle, but it will not start. An officer pushed the vehicle out of the way and contacted the registered owner of the vehicle, who said a mechanic will remove the vehicle on Monday morning.
  • Breanna Lappe reported a group of kids on skateboards near the railroad crossing on N. Grimmell Road. Lappe said they are hard to see, and someone may get struck by a car. An officer located the group and spoke to them about wearing reflective clothing, or lights so they can be easily seen after dark.
  • The A&W reported a suspicious vehicle sitting in the parking lot at 300 N. Elm St. An officer spoke to the occupant, who was waiting for an employee to get off work.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
