February 8, 2017

  • An officer located an open door at 1801 N. Elm St.
  • While patrolling, an officer spotted a male walking in the 300 block of W. Reed Street. The officer made contact with the person and learned he had outstanding arrest warrants. Jacob Arthur Ore, 39, of Jefferson was arrested by the officer. Ore had a Jefferson Police Department arrest warrant for failure to appear on a charge of fifth-degree theft. Ore was also wanted on a Carroll County warrant for failure to appear on a narcotics charge.
  • Chris Swank reported seeing vehicle lights in the Jefferson Cemetery. The officer did not locate anyone in the area.
  • An officer investigated a burglary to a residence in the 400 block of W. State Street. The resident had been gone for a month over the holiday season and now noticed missing jewelry from his residence. The officer is investigating.
  • An officer checked on an unoccupied vehicle parked on 250th Street. The officer later made contact with a female in the area. She had parked her truck to walk her dog.
  • Dottie Aldridge reported receiving harassing text messages. She wanted the officer to document the event and take no further action.
  • Linda Daubert said her vehicle had broken down in the 200 block of E. Lincoln Way. She said a mechanic was coming to remove the vehicle from the roadway.
  • Rose Lehrkamp requested an officer respond to 603 S. Mulberry St. She said her boyfriend would not give her back the key to the residence. The officer advised it was a civil issue, and he could not make the boyfriend give her the key because the boyfriend also lives at the residence.
  • Adam Coyne reported a male in dark clothing walking on the roadway in the 1600 block of N. Elm Street. He said he could barely see the male and did not want him to get struck by a vehicle. The officer located the subject in the parking lot at 777 Wild Rose Lane.
  • Officers issued 23 snow ordinance–parking citations during yesterday’s snow event. Two vehicles were towed from the square area to allow city crews to remove snow.

February 9, 2017

  • While conducting business checks, an officer located an open door at 1801 N. Elm St.
  • A local retail store reported a gas drive-off theft at 303 N. Elm St. after a male left without attempting to pay for $10.06 in fuel.
  • The Greene County Community High School called and said two juvenile students had been caught with tobacco. The officer is following up with citations for the two juveniles for minor using tobacco–civil penalty.
  • An officer investigated a two-vehicle property damage accident in the 100 block of E. State Street. A 2008 Mercury Mariner, owned and operated by Pamela Olerich of Jefferson, was backing from a parking spot on the south side of E. State Street as a 2005 Ford Taurus, owned and operated by Frances Baker of Jefferson, was eastbound in the 100 block. Baker struck the rear of the Olerich vehicle, which suffered a reported $1,000 in damages to the rear. The Baker vehicle had a reported $2,000 in damages to the front. The officer could not determine if Olerich had completely pulled from the parking spot before the collision because each driver gave a different version of the event. The officer did not issue a citation to either party because he felt both shared equally in fault for the accident.
  • Ashley Jones requested that an officer accompany her to 303 S. Grimmell Road in order to stand by while she removed her items from the residence. The officer stood by and the civil property exchange occurred without incident.
  • Officers were requested to assist Richard Norton in a civil property exchange occurring at 603 S. Mulberry St. Norton was informed by the officer that if he returned to the property, he might face a trespassing charge.
  • Michael Godwin called and said a vehicle was chasing him as he approached Jefferson on 235th Street. The officer did not locate the reported vehicle.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
