Jefferson Police Report Feb. 13

  • A caller reported a vehicle on fire at the Greene County Middle School in the 200 block of S. Vine Street. An officer arrived and made contact with a delivery driver, who said his rear brakes locked up on his semi-trailer, causing the fire. The driver was able to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher before the officer’s arrival. The driver made arrangements with his company to remove the trailer from the area.
  • An officer investigated a two-vehicle, property-damage accident at Monroe and Vine streets. A 2011 Honda Accord, owned and operated by Reanna Halterman of Jefferson, was westbound in the 100 block of W. Monroe Street and did not yield to a vehicle traveling southbound in the 200 block of S. Vine Street but struck the left rear of the 2001 Chevrolet Traverse, owned and operated by Karen Shannon of Jefferson. Both vehicles had an estimated $500 in damages. Halterman was issued a citation for failure to yield to the right.
  • Paula Upton reported a stray dog in the area of Elm and Russell streets. An officer checked the area but did not locate the animal.
  • Sam Chaloupka requested a welfare check on a female at 500 E. Clark St. after reading posts on Facebook from the female. An officer made contact with the female, who was fine.
  • The Schwan’s Corporation requested an officer look for one of their drivers in Jefferson because he was not answering his phone. An officer responded but did not locate the driver in town.
  • Charlie Jarnagin-Paniagua reported being harassed by a female on Snapchat and Facebook. An officer is working to contact the female and end the unwanted contact.
  • Casey’s reported a possible intoxicated driver leaving 508 N. Elm St. The vehicle was reported to be traveling north of Elm Street. An officer responded but did not locate the vehicle.
  • A caller reported of a semi driving carelessly on 220th Street towards Jefferson from the east. An officer responded but did not locate the reported vehicle.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
