  • An officer checked on a fire alarm activation at 1000 W. Lincoln Way. The staff advised a faulty heat sensor had set off the alarm and all was fine.
  • Jefferson Street Department workers turned in a vehicle registration plate that was found near Russell and Walnut streets. An officer contacted the vehicle’s owner to pick up the place at the Law Enforcement Center.
  • An officer assisted with a medical call in the 700 block of S. Locust Street.
  • Jackie Cram reported a male driving without a license near Olive and Washington streets. The officer did not locate the person.
  • A Fairmount, Minn., police officer requested assistance from Jefferson Police Department officers in looking for a wanted female from Minnesota who might be in Jefferson.
  • Russ Hoffman reported four juveniles playing on the rock pile at the Greene County Secondary Roads Department on W. Wall Street. The officer made contact with the young boys and spoke to them about the possible dangers and the fact it was private property.
  • Officers arrested Michael Jason Godwin, 28, of Jefferson on two outstanding Jefferson Police Department arrest warrants. Godwin was charged with tampering with a witness  and fourth-degree theft. The charges stem from reported stolen computers recovered from 303 S. Grimmell Road after Godwin told officers he did not have them. Godwin used the stolen computers as leverage to get former roommates to drop criminal charges against him.
  • Officers removed a bat from the residence at 618 S. Vine St.
  • Officers were called to 303 S. Grimmell Road for a reported assault occurring there. The officer made contact with Michael Godwin, who said he was jumped by three men with beards and wearing colors from the Grim Reaper motorcycle gang. Godwin said he was pushed to the ground and beaten by the three males as he walked on Georgia Street near his residence on S. Grimmell Road. The officer could find no marks on Godwin and no evidence in the area to show the reported assault occurred.
  • Todd Muir turned in a found wallet to the Law Enforcement Center. The officer contacted the owner of the wallet.
  • Ron Pike reported a deceased deer on the train tracks on N. Maple Street.
  • While conducting business checks, an officer located an open door at 600 E. Lincoln Way.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
