Jefferson Police Report Jan. 20-22

January 20, 2017

  • An officer investigated a two-vehicle property-damage accident in the semi parking lot at 606 Highway 30 East. A 2015 Dodge 1500, owned by M. J. Electric, was parked and occupied facing primarily north. A 2001 Kenworth truck/trailer, owned by M & W Ag Supply and operated by Larry Minnihan, was travelling northbound. Minnihan turned left to be westbound. The middle of the trailer contacted the front passenger side of the Dodge. The officer estimated the damage to the Dodge Ram at $8,000. Approximately $500 in damage was caused to the tractor/trailer. No citations were issued due to the incident occurring private property.
  • A caller said a man was removing items from a vacant residence at 306 W. Reed St. The officer did not locate anyone present at the address.
  • An officer began an investigation into the possible “theft of services” in the 300 block of E. Vest Street. Water department employees had located a city water meter that had been tampered with.
  • A caller reported a possible impaired driver on N. Elm Street near 220th Street. The officer did not locate the vehicle.
  • Norma Quario spoke with an officer at the LEC concerning a civil property issue occurring at 303 S. Grimmell Road. After completing the complaint process, Quario was arrested by the officer for two Greene County warrants for failure to appear on traffic violations.
  • A caller said a man with an outstanding Jefferson Police Department arrest warrant was at the Wild Rose Casino at 777 Wild Rose Lane. The wanted man left before the arrival of officers.
  • Officers were requested at 903 W. State St. for an out-of-control intoxicated male. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Michael Marlin Matthews, 21, of Grand Junction for disorderly conduct–simple and public intoxication-simple.
  • Rose Lehrkamp requested officers at 603 S. Mulberry St. for a reported domestic assault. The officer’s investigation found no evidence to support the reported assault. Both people were intoxicated. The male called for a ride to another location for the remainder of the evening.
  • An unknown man came to the LEC and said he wanted to report a peeping Tom. The officer was busy assisting the jail with an unruly inmate, and the man did not wait to speak to the officer, as requested.

January 21, 2017

  • The Tama County Sheriff’s office requested assistance from an officer in locating a stolen vehicle from their jurisdiction, which may be at an address in Jefferson. The officer did not locate the vehicle.
  • The Greene County Sheriff’s office requested an officer to attempt to make contact with a vehicle’s owner at 909 S. Chestnut St. The deputy had located the vehicle in a ditch near I Avenue and 190th Street. The officer made contact with the owner and passed information back to the deputy.
  • John Reed reported harassment by a known male. Reed did not want the officer to take any action but just document the event.
  • Shellie Leesley reported harassment by her estranged husband. The officer advised him to end contact with her.
  • Tracy Murphy reported a careless driver on County Road E53 traveling westbound toward Jefferson. The officer did not locate the vehicle.
  • An officer was called to 2 Park Ave. S. for a reported burglary. An unknown suspect entered the residence and removed a reported $1,400 in cash and property. The officer has been given vehicle and suspect information. The investigation continues.
  • Shirley Herrick requested an officer make contact with a woman at 407 S. Olive St. and give her a phone number to call her son. The officer passed the information to the woman.

January 22, 2017

  • An officer checked on a business alarm activation at 1805 N. Elm St.
  • A gas station reported a gas drive off in the amount of $10 at 606 Highway 30 East.
  • The Greene County Sheriff’s office requested assistance from an officer in assisting the Greene County EMS with a medical call in the jail at the LEC.
  • Officers were requested at the Greene County Recreation Center for the report of a male juvenile outside showing other kids a handgun. The officer responded and spoke with several juveniles present at the rec center. His investigation led to him meeting with a mother and her juvenile son in the 600 block of N. Cedar Street. The juvenile reported having a pellet pistol and provided it to the officer. No reports were made that the juvenile had not said anything or used the gun in a threatening manner. The mother requested the officer to destroy the pellet gun. The officer is conferring with the Juvenile Court Officer on possible charges in the matter.
  • An officer took a burglary complaint at 608 S. Oak St. The resident reported damage to a door and missing cash and items from the residence. The officer is investigating.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
