June 28, 2019

  • Bev Luft reported fireworks being set off near 300 S. West St. An officer did not locate the source.
  • An officer located an open door at 1603 N. Elm St. The officer secured the building.
  • An officer assisted with a medical call in the 700 block of Wild Rose Lane.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County Ambulance with a medical call in the 400 block of Greenewood Road.
  • Toni Lindberg reported two unattended young children at 703 W. State St. An officer arrived and located a 7-year-old locked out of the residence and a 3-year-old inside the residence. They advised they did not know where their mother was. The officer gained entry into the residence and secured the 3-year-old. The mother came downstairs and advised she had been asleep upstairs. The Iowa Department of Human Services was contacted by the officer.
  • Elise Stephanie reported an injured snake in the roadway in the 200 block of W. State Street. The officer did not locate the injured animal.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County Ambulance with a medical call in the 800 block of W. Monroe Street.
  • A U.S. Postal Service letter carrier reported the mail was not picked up for several days at 207 E. Perry St. The officer learned the person was in the hospital.
  • Irene Mischke reported a caller told her he worked for the U.S. Social Security Administration and requested her Social Security number. Mischke did not provide the caller with any information.
  • A traffic stop was performed at 230th and Kirkwood streets, resulting in Justin Lopez of Jefferson being issued a citation for driving while suspended.
  • An anonymous caller reported a possible intoxicated driver traveling to the Webb House. An officer did not locate the reported vehicle.
  • An officer went to 402 E. Madison St. and arrested Carl William Hale, 65, of Jefferson on an outstanding Jefferson Police Department warrant for stalking. The warrant stems from an investigation that began May 30, 2019. A juvenile female reported being subject to constant unwanted contact from Hale at two places of employment. The officer spoke to Hale and advised him to end the unwanted contact, but it continued, resulting in his arrest.

June 29, 2019

  • Kashia Cooklin reported a baby fawn walking on W. Russel Street. The officer located the uninjured fawn. It had left the roadway and did not require any action by the officer.
  • The Law Enforcement Center dispatch advised an officer of a 911 hang-up call from 1406 Southfield Drive. It was determined that children were playing with the phone.
  • A caller advised of an extremely loud classic car being driven in the 600 block of S. Chestnut Street. An officer spoke to a person about the complaint, and the person said he would park the vehicle out of respect for his neighbors.
  • Walton Woods reported a male who had been trespassed from the property was at the complex again. An officer is awaiting video footage and is investigating.
  • The Wild Rose Casino requested an officer at 777 Wild Rose Lane for a sleeping male who could not be awoken. When the officer arrived, the caller said the sleeping person had woken up and no assistance was needed.
  • Justin Baker spoke with an officer about a civil property issue occurring at 500 E. Clark St.

June 30, 2019

  • During a check of the restrooms at Washington Park, an officer located a backpack containing several BB gun pistols, a sword, knives and tobacco products. The items were seized by the officer, and he is investigating.
  • Julie Byerly reported a female urinating outside of a residence in the 600 block of W. Washington Street. An officer did not locate the female.
  • A caller reported barking dogs in the 100 block of N. Cedar Street. An officer located the residence but could not get a response at the door. He is working to speak with the owner about the issue.
  • An officer assisted a couple whose small child locked himself in their vehicle in the 700 block of Wild Rose Lane.
  • The Jefferson Swimming Pool reported a male was there who was banned earlier in the week. An officer spoke with the person, who left on his own.
  • An officer assisted Regency Park at 100 Ram Drive after a patient was attempting to walk away from the facility. The staff was walking the subject inside upon the officer’s arrival.
  • A clerk at Sparky’s One Stop reported an intoxicated female had left 606 U.S. Highway 30 eastbound in a tan Dodge Durango. An officer later located the reported vehicle on Elm Street. A computerized check of the vehicle showed the driver’s license of the female owner was suspended in Iowa. The officer performed a traffic stop with the vehicle in the 500 block of N. Elm Street. While speaking the female driver, the officer noticed several signs of intoxication. There were three children in the vehicle with the driver. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Ashley Nicole Paulsen, 31, of Perry for third-offense OWI, three counts of child endangerment, driving while suspended and failure to provide proof of financial liability.
  • Officers issued two parking violation notices on E. Wilcox Way after receiving complaints about violations of the odd/even parking regulation.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
