June 6, 2017

  • An officer located an open door in the 500 block of West Greenewood Road.
  • An officer arrested Edward Goff, 38, of Des Moines on an outstanding Jefferson Police Department arrest warrant. Goff failed to appear on an original charge of third-degree harassment.
  • An officer investigated a car-versus-bicycle accident at Elm and Washington streets. Ben Robbins of Jefferson was attempting to cross Elm Street at the intersection on his bicycle when he ran into the side of a passing car as he entered the roadway. Robbins struck a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, owned and operated by Linda Smith of Jefferson, which suffered a reported $1,000 in damages to the right rear door and fender. Robbins’ bike had a reported $200 in damages mainly to the front tire. Citations are pending for Robbins for failure to obey a stop sign.
  • Donna Helms reported a suspicious male near Elm and Vest streets. An officer responded but did not locate the person.
  • An officer checked on a report of a possible credit card skimmer at 903 N Elm St. The officer did not locate any such device in place at the business.
  • Tiffany Murphy reported a male and female involved in a physical fight in the 300 block of N. Oak Street. An officer made contact with someone in the area who advised the couple had left. The person said it was a verbal argument and nothing physical had occurred between the couple. The officer is still looking for the couple to speak to them himself.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County EMS with a medical call in the 300 block of S. Grimmell Road.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County EMS with a medical call in the 500 block of N. Elm Street.
  • Crystal Gregerson reported her vehicle was struck and damaged while parked in the street in the 300 block of W. Adams Street. The 2004 Dodge Intrepid had a reported $500 in damage to the rear driver’s side of the vehicle. An officer is investigating.
  • JoAnn Johnston reported that her vehicle was struck while parked at 106 W. Washington St. The 2013 Toyota Sienna sustained a reported $1,000 in damages to the right rear side. An officer is working with the business to view video of the event and attempt to identify the other vehicle involved.

June 7, 2017

  • An officer assisted the Greene County Hospital emergency room by submitting a preliminary breath test on a patient for report purposes.
  • An officer assisted with a medical call in the 600 block of W. Monroe Street.
  • Shelly Gilbertson said her two dogs escaped from their fenced yard at 607 W. South St. An officer later located the animals and returned them to the owner.
  • An officer assisted the the Greene County Hospital emergency room by submitting a preliminary breath test on a patient for report purposes.
  • Matt Naberhaus advised of a deceased fawn near Elm and Edgewood streets. The Jefferson Public Works Department removed the animal from the area.
  • Jim Bergstrom reported a motorcycle parked in a handicapped parking spot at 1000 W. Lincoln Way.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 700 block of N. Grimmell Road, resulting in Chase Juergensen of Churdan being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • A caller reported a possible case of elder abuse occurring in Jefferson. An officer is speaking with the Iowa Department of Human Services in connection to the report.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County EMS with a medical call in the 300 block of W. Greenewood Road.
  • An officer located an open door at 610 N. Elm St.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
