  • While conducting business door checks, an officer located an open door at 1801 N. Elm St.
  • An officer investigated a two-vehicle property damage accident at Lincoln Way and Grimmell Road. A 2013 Subaru Legacy, owned and operated by Ashley Witte of Jefferson, was traveling northbound on South Grimmell Road. Witte stopped at the posted stop sign at the intersection of Grimmell and Lincoln Way and left the stop sign to travel north when she was struck in the intersection by a westbound vehicle. Wilma Bender was westbound on Lincoln Way in her 2011 Ford Fusion. Bender stopped at the posted stop sign but left the posted stop without yielding to Witte. The Witte vehicle had a reported $1,000 in damages to the right rear. The Bender vehicle had a reported $2,000 in front-end damage. Bender was issued a citation for failure to yield upon entering roadway.
  • Diane Ostrander reported to an officer that she had lost her address book. Ostrander later told the officer that she had located the item.
  • Officers investigated a two-vehicle personal injury accident at Washington and Locust streets. A 2009 Cadillac DTS, owned and operated by Richard Smith of Jefferson, was traveling westbound on E. Washington Street. As Smith passed through the intersection at N. Locust Street, a northbound vehicle struck the driver’s side of the Smith vehicle. A 2013 Chevrolet Traverse, owned and operated by Dorena Wilson of Jefferson, was traveling northbound on Locust Street and did not yield at the intersection. The Smith vehicle had a reported $4.000 in damages and was towed from the scene. The Wilson vehicle had a reported $4,000 in damages but drove away under its own power. The Greene County EMS was called to check the people for possible injuries and transported two people to the Greene County Hospital emergency room for further evaluation. Wilson was issued a citation for failure to yield to vehicle on right.
  • It was reported to officers that Bud Hayley received a phone scam call from a male claiming to be Hayley’s grandchild. The caller advised Hayley he was in an accident and needed $9,000 wired to him immediately. Hayley recognized the call as a scam and ended the call without giving out any personal information.
  • An officer received a barking dog complaint in the 300 block of S. Olive Street. An officer is attempting to speak to the animal’s owner to remedy the issue.
  • Officers were advised that someone pumped gas at 208 W. Lincoln Way but left without paying for the fuel. Store employees checked video of the event and believed the person thought his credit card had paid at the pump, but the transaction had timed out. The business did not believe the person intentionally took the fuel. The officer will attempt to reach the out-of-state motorist and advise him of the issue.
  • Carlotta Wilde requested a live trap from an officer. She reported domestic rabbits running freely on S. Cedar Street and eating her flowers.
  • A traffic stop was performed at 600 block of S. Chestnut Street, which resulted in Ian Jewett of Paton being issued a citation for dark windows.
  • A traffic stop was performed at Vest and Chestnut streets, which resulted in Jennifer Brown of Jefferson being issued a citation for driving while suspended.
  • A traffic stop was performed with a vehicle in the 100 block of S. Wilson Avenue. The officer’s investigation led to Jamie Ray Alvarado, 22, of Grand Junction being arrested for driving while barred. Alvarado was also issued a citation for fraudulent use of registration, failure to provide proof of financial liability and failure to wear a safety belt. The vehicle was towed to impound from the arrest scene. Suspected narcotics were located during an inventory of the vehicle by officers, and Alvarado and a passenger may face future charges after the items are lab tested.
  • An officer was requested to conduct a welfare check on a dog in the 300 block of E. Vest Street. An officer checked on the dog and found it had food and water and appeared to be in good health. The person requesting the welfare check said the dog is left alone in the residence during the day, and because of this they were looking for a new home for the animal.
  • Jon Strabley spoke with an officer at the Law Enforcement Center about his vehicle being struck in the student parking lot at 101 Ram Drive. Strabley provided an officer with the name of a person who he suspected struck his vehicle. The officer is investigating the reported event.
  • Katie Ward requested officers at 108 E. Central Ave., #66. She said her boyfriend attempted to leave with their young child after an argument, but he does not have a valid driver’s license. Officers arrived and learned the boyfriend forced the door open, causing damages, and assaulted a female inside the trailer. The officer arrested Jackson Devon Walsh, 21, of Ankeny and charged him with fifth-degree criminal mischief and simple assault.
  • Officers were called to Kum & Go at 303 N. Elm St. for a shoplifting in progress. The officers arrived and made contact with a female suspect outside the business. The officers’ investigation led to the arrest of Brenda Renee Thompson, 39, of Perry for fifth-degree theft. Thompson was also charged with driving while suspended as she had driven to the business.
  • Jake Ball requested officers at 107 W. Madison St. for a domestic situation. Officers arrived and spoke with the couple. The officers’ investigation did not locate any evidence to support the man’ claims of the woman’s physically attacking him. The woman voluntarily left the residence for the evening.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
