November 19, 2019

  • A traffic stop at 220th Street and Doreen Wilbur Drive resulted in Luis Rodriguez of Carroll being issued a citation for driving while suspended.
  • A caller reported neighbors arguing loudly at 307 W. Lincoln Way St. An officer spoke to a female who said she was arguing with her boyfriend, and he went for a walk to allow things to cool down.
  • A caller reported seeing a male open-handed spanking a young child at 508 N. Elm St. An officer did not locate the suspect at the store but is investigating the reported event.
  • Justin Schrack spoke to an officer about a civil issue with a local contractor in Holy Cross, Iowa. Schrack was advised to report the issue to his local authorities as it was occurring there.
  • An officer assisted the Juvenile Court Officer at the Greene County Courthouse in collecting a urine analysis collection kit from a juvenile.
  • A retail store reported two people writing checks at the business over the past few days at 508 N. Elm St. The checking accounts were closed or have no funds in them. An officer is gathering information and investigating.
  • A business requested an officer at 777 Wild Rose Lane for a possible sick opossum in the area. The officer located the animal, which appeared to be fine and released it in a farm field.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County Ambulance with a medical call in the 800 block of W. South Street.
  • Officers investigated a two-vehicle property-damage accident at the intersection of N. Locust and E. Washington streets. A 2000 Ford F150, owned and operated by Hasan Sadikovic of Des Moines, was southbound on N. Locust Street and failed to yield to a 2008 Volkswagen Touareg, owned and operated by Ricky Knight of Jefferson, traveling eastbound vehicle on W. Washington Street, and the two vehicles collided in the intersection. Damage to Sadikovic’s vehicle was estimated at $1,000, and damage to Knight’s vehicle was estimated at $5,000. Sadikovic was issued a citation for failure to obey yield sign.
  • A caller advised of people burning leaves in the yard at 406 E. Harrison St. This is not a violation of ordinance and is allowed year-round in Jefferson. The officer took no action after checking to ensure the fire was attended.
  • Officers were advised of the strong odor of natural gas in the 100 block of Ram Drive. Alliant Energy was contacted to check on the area.
  • The Story County Sheriff’s office requested a Jefferson officer to advise a Jefferson resident that a family member was involved in a traffic accident in Story County. The officer passed the information to the resident.
  • Dispatch received a 911 hang-up call from a cellular phone. Officers made contact with a female at 205 N. Locust St. and found her to be fine.

November 20, 2019

  • Matt Gordon reported a stray dog roaming in the 500 block of W. Harrison Street. An officer searched the area but was unable to locate the animal.
  • Austin Taylor O’Connell was arrested at 307 W. Lincoln Way on outstanding Jefferson Police Department arrest warrants for first-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana, unlawful possession of prescription drug and possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges stem from a fire at the residence Oct. 30, 2019. During the event, Jefferson firefighters located the items in the bathroom and advised officers, who seized the items and sent them to the lab for testing.
  • Officers were requested at 615 S. Olive Street for problems with a juvenile male at the residence. Officers arrived and spoke to the juvenile and his parents. The officers worked to defuse the issues, and the child was allowed to go to his room and cool down.
  • Merissa Olson reported a careless driver near Lincoln Way and Cedar Street.
  • Mary Springer reported two males smoking marijuana in a vehicle parked at 508 N. Elm St. The vehicle left before An officer arrived.
  • Kurt Meinecke reported loud music in the 700 block of N. Cedar Street. An officer checked the area but did not locate any music in the area.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
