September 26, 2019

  • An officer responded to the Greene County Elementary School at 401 E. Russell St. to assist staff with a theft complaint involving a juvenile.
  • The staff from the Greene County Community Center at 204 W. Harrison St. spoke with an officer about a suspicious male walking around the facility.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County Ambulance with a patient in the 100 block of W. Washington Street.
  • An officer assisted the Jefferson Fire Department with a fire at 1500 N. Mulberry Road at the Landus Co-op. The Greene County Ambulance also responded.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County Ambulance with a patient in the 500 block of S. Vine Street.
  • The staff at State Farm Insurance at 200 W. Central St. reported two suspicious males in the 200 block of W. Central Street.
  • An officer responded to 607 W. State St. for a traffic accident. Kenneth Aldrich was operating a 2004 GMC Sonoma when he backed it into the rear driver’s side door of a legally parked 2003 Chevy Trailblazer, belonging to Brian Mobley. Aldrich was issued a citation for failure to maintain control. Aldrich’s vehicle sustained an estimated $1,000 in damage, and Mobley’s vehicle sustained an estimated $3,000 in damage.
  • On Sept. 25th, 2019, at 8:22 p.m., Nicole Semke reported an assault that occurred at 401 S. Wilson Ave. The report was an adult female had knocked a cell phone out of a juvenile’s hand, causing $800 in damage to an iPhone. As a result, an arrest warrant has been requested for Caitlyn Day, 26, of Jefferson for assault and third-degree criminal mischief.

September 27, 2019

  • Eldon Cunningham reported a female wrapped in a blanket and walking southward in the 1300 block of S. Elm Street. An officer made contact with the female, who advised she was fine and walking to Yale.
  • Officers assisted the Greene County Ambulance with a medical call in the 500 block of S. Vine Street.
  • Caitlyn Day reported being harassed on Facebook.
  • Officers began an investigation with the Iowa Department of Human Services into the welfare of a 14-year-old child in Jefferson.
  • Bruce Banister requested an officer to contact a neighbor about using his private driveway at 704 W. Sunset Road. The officer conveyed Banister’s wishes to the neighbor.
  • An officer responded to 400 N. Elm St. for an alarm activation. The officer found the business to be secure.

September 28, 2019

  • Brandi Hicks spoke with an officer concerning a civil property issue at 604 Rushview Drive.
  • Carol Custer reported a dead deer in the roadway in the 1700 block of S. Elm Street. An officer removed the carcass from the roadway and advised the Iowa Department of Transportation to remove it from the area.
  • Shanda Hoyle reported a vehicle driving carelessly on 235th Street and traveling westward towards Jefferson. An officer did not locate the reported vehicle.
  • A retail store reported a gas drive-off in the amount of $61 at 208 W. Lincoln Way. An officer will watch any available video and investigate the reported event.
  • An officer performed a funeral escort.
  • Jon Forkner requested an officer to locate a male in Jefferson and him to call Forkner. The officer did not locate the male in Jefferson.
  • As requested by an Iowa Department of Natural Resources officer, an officer removed an injured squirrel from the yard at 901 W. Washington St.
  • Brenda Batschelet reported hearing an audible alarm in a neighbor’s apartment at 1000 W. Adams St. An officer contacted the neighbor, who advised she was fine.
  • Anne Butler reported catching an individual looking into her vehicle at 610 S. Locust St. The peeper ran away when confronted by Butler. Nothing was reported missing.
  • A traffic stop was performed on a vehicle with a faulty front lamp in the 100 block of E. Washington Street. An officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Bruce Kevin Binkley, 58, of Jefferson for first-offense OWI and improper use of driving lights.

September 29, 2019

  • A caller reported loud music coming from the garage at 505 N. Chestnut St. An officer spoke to the group and advised them to quiet down for the rest of the evening.
  • An officer responded to an alarm activation at 1805 N. Elm St. The officer found the business to be secure.
  • Scott Guttenfelder reported a lost or stolen handgun from 309 Rushview Drive. An officer is investigating.
  • Charlie Paniagua spoke to an officer about a civil property issue at 402 N. Chestnut St.
  • A retail store reported a middle-aged male came into the business at 508 N. Elm St. and told the clerk he worked for the Casey’s Cooperation and was conducting a test of their equipment. He made 10 purchases of cigarettes, and each time he paid for the cigarettes with a debit card and requested $20 in cash back. The clerk found this suspicious. An officer has identified the male and is investigating whether anything illegal occurred.
  • Juan Guzman reported noticing an apartment door was damaged at 1216 Westwood Drive. The renter is currently incarcerated in another county. The door appeared to have been kicked in, causing damage to it. An officer is waiting to her back from the renter about the issue.
  • A traffic stop in the 200 block of S. Elm Street resulted in Jessica Johnston of Des Moines being issued a citation for operation without registration.
  • Officers issued seven parking violation notices for street sweeping violation.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
