September 2, 2019

  • Kelli Luther reported a stray dog at 504 S. Oak St. The owner picked up the animal before the officer’s arrival.
  • An officer removed a bat from the residence at 408 S. Olive St.
  • A traffic stop in the 700 block of N. Elm Street resulted in Nathan Blankman of Manning being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • An officer was requested at 300 S. Grimmell Road for a bat in the house. The officer was unable to locate the animal.
  • A traffic stop at 235th Street and Q Avenue resulted in Joshua Smithson of Jefferson being issued a citation for driving while suspended.
  • Jennifer Ashby reported her adult daughter was missing since Sunday and may be in Des Moines. An officer forwarded the information to the Des Moines Police Department. The daughter’s name was also placed in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system on an Attempt to Locate.
  • An officer was requested at 205 W. Madison St. for a bat in the house. The officer did not locate the bat.

September 3, 2019

  • A traffic stop in the 600 block of N. Elm Street resulted in Ashley Kuhl of Jefferson being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • A Boy’s Town employee spoke to an officer about a Jefferson parent who walked his child to school but is only to have supervised visitation, according to an Iowa Department of Human Services order. The officer learned the child made it to school safely.
  • Kevin Steelman reported a possible no-contact order violation at 1581 235th Street. An officer reviewed the order and learned the person reported to have broken the order was the protected party. The order does not stop the person from being on the property.
  • Lois Brant reported receiving the Social Security scam phone call. Brant said she did not provide the caller with any personal information.
  • A traffic stop at 220th Street and Oakland Avenue resulted in Jessica Crouse of Altoona being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • Officers were called to 503 E. Lincoln Way for a reported argument between family members. The officers arrived, spoke to several people at the residence and learned a grandmother had arrived at the residence to pick up her 17-year-old grandson. The grandson did not wish to leave, and an argument started. In the argument, the 17-year-old male slapped his younger sister. The officer arrested the 17-year-old male and sent assault-simple juvenile charges to the Juvenile Court. Kayden Nelson of Jefferson was issued a citation for minor using vapor product.
  • Vickie Williams reported a known Jefferson female was slandering her on the internet. An officer advised Williams the alleged action was not a criminal matter and advised her to speak to an attorney.
  • An officer removed a bat from the residence at 406 E. State St.
  • A caller advised of a dog tied out at 617 S. Olive St. with no access to water. An officer later spoke to the owner about the issue. The owner said the dog only goes out for short periods, but he will put water out.
  • Nathan Nelson reported his motorcycle was stolen from 505 S. Maple St. An officer located the motorcycle a few houses away. The officer determined Nelson was probably intoxicated when he parked the vehicle and probably forgot where it was.
  • An officer located an unoccupied vehicle parked along the roadway on N. Grimmell Road near 220th Street. No one was around the vehicle, and it was well off of the roadway.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
