Blue Jay Market owners Deepak Nayyar and Shelley Nayyar of West Des Moines welcomed the Perry Chamber of Commerce to their corner shop at 2810 Willis Ave. for a ribbon cutting Friday.
Deepak and Shelley thanked each of their new chamber cohorts with a free taco from the Alamo Taco Express taco truck and a free thimbleful of beer or wine.
The Nayyars took over operation of the long-time Perry convenience store in April 2017 and have made a number of additions and improvements, including the recent installation of a Beer Cave cooler in the rear of the shop.
Shelley also works as a nurse at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines and helps out part-time at the Perry store. Before buying the Blue Jay Market, Deepak was the manager of the health market at the Hy-Vee store in Johnston.
