Karen Nichols, 63, of Perry passed away at home March 20, 2024, from liver cancer and into the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ the Lord.

Karen Sue Buchanan was born Nov. 29, 1960, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Melvin and Shirley
Buchanan (Dillinger).

Karen grew up in Wyoming, Iowa, and graduated from Midland High School with the class of 1979.

As a young girl, she often said she wanted to travel America. She was able to complete that request, making it to 43 states as well as Canada and Mexico. COVID-19 cancelled the trip to New England. Hawaii was scheduled for this summer. Amtrack was her favorite way to travel.

Karen married Keith Nichols on April 16, 1999.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in June of that year and was a 24-year survivor.

Karen retired from Wells Fargo.

She was an active member of the Perry Eagles Auxiliary.

Karen enjoyed crocheting blankets for the women’s shelter and was very proud of her flower beds.

Karen is survived by her husband, Keith; brother, Mike Buchanan; sister, Teresa Buchanan;
and grandsons, Cameron, Cody and Ethan Morgan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Debbie Gardner.

Graveside services will be at the Diagonal Cemetery in Diagonal, Iowa, on April 4 at 1 p.m. The family will greet friends at the Arispe Roadside Café at 400 Division St. in Arispe, Iowa, from 11 a.m. to 120 p.m. prior to the graveside service.

The family requests memorial donations be directed to the Susan Komen Foundation.
