Kathleen Menz, 65, of Perry passed away Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018, at her home in Perry, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church in rural Bouton. Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 25 from 5-7 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care in Perry. Burial will be at the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry.

Kathleen Ann Menz was born Jan. 11, 1953, in Perry, Iowa, to Edward Ed and Lila Joy (Daugherty) Menz.

She attended school in Perry, graduating with the class of 1971. She then attended St. Mary’s School of Practical Nursing in Rochester, Minn., and obtained RN degree in nursing. Later she went to Iowa State, pursuing her love of animals and aspiring to become a veterinarian.

She was united in marriage to Chriss Barck at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Perry Dec. 15, 1973.

She worked as an ER Nurse in Colorado Springs, Colo., Menomonie, Wis., the Dallas County Hospital and the Mary Greeley Hospital. Her time in nursing nurtured her desire to help others and led her to serve on the Perry Fire Department for seven years.

After retiring from nursing, she started her own general contractor business before later working with her three children at Rainbow International.

She loved growing up on the farm and enjoyed moving into her acreage home just south of where she grew up. Taking care of flowers, a horse, ponies, dogs and kittens was how she enjoyed spending a large amount of her time.

She had a passion for working with her hands, painting and watching movies.

She especially loved family.

In death she rejoins her father, Edward Menz; and grandparents, Albert and Eva Menz and Joe and Gladys Daugherty.

Left to cherish Kathleen’s memory are her mother, Lila Joy Menz; children, Jason (Shelley) Barck of Perry, Trish Barck of Perry and Toby (Becky) Barck of Grimes; grandchildren, Jasmyn, Korbin, Trenton, Callen and Baby Barck to be born; brothers, Dave (Karen) Menz and Steve (Annette) Menz, both of Perry; uncle, Raymond (Robbie) Daugherty of Pembina, N.D.; aunts, Rose Menz of Perry and Nora Easter of Ankeny; many nieces; nephews; and cousins.
