Joe Cerwinske, news director at KDLS radio in Perry since 2017, traded the commercial microphone for the public-safety microphone Wednesday when he started a new position as dispatcher in the Dallas County Sheriff’s communications center.

The Dallas County Board of Supervisors welcomed Cerwinske to the county payroll Tuesday at their regular weekly meeting and officially approving his hiring.

Cerwinske was preceded at the radio station’s news desk by Samantha Smith-Gronlund, news director from 2012 to 2017. Smith-Gronlund now works at a metro television station in Des Moines.

  1. It’s always nice when a public person like a radio personality, that we all know, takes a new job AND they stay in our community. We must have made a good impression on him. Congratulations on the new job! We will miss you!
