Kenneth “Kenny” E. Huitt, 84, of Hickory, N.C., passed away Jan. 31, 2018, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. Born Dec. 19, 1933, in Adel, Iowa, he was the son of the late Merrill and Elva Sable Huitt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Mountain.
Kenny is survived by his wife of 63 years, Norine Carpenter Huitt of the home; son, Kevin Huitt and wife, Susan, of Hickory, N.C.; daughter, Kyla Huitt of Topeka, Kan.; grandson, Kenneth L. Huitt of Ellsworth, Maine; granddaughter, Perri Huitt of Pueblo, Colo.; brothers, Larry Huitt and wife, Sandy, of Arizona and Gary Huitt and wife, Surella, of Iowa; sister, Barbara Kastner and husband, John, of Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kenny was a 50-year member of Pymosa Masonic Lodge in Iowa, Golden Rule Chapter Eastern Star in Iowa and a member of Mirza Shrine in Kansas.
He was a “people person.” He enjoyed traveling, hunting, and spending time with his family, especially enjoying his grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Feb. 9 10 a.m. at Hamilton near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 121 N.W. 60th Ave., Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
