Veteran Perry-area farmer Lawrence Bice received congratulations Friday morning on the occasion of his 85th birthday from his fellow members in the Society of Retired Experts (SORE) at the Perry Perk coffeehouse.

Bice is also a 49-year member of the Perry Kiwanis Club, and he tells fascinating stories about his experience in once hosting a farmer from the former Soviet Union at his Boone County home and later visiting the Soviet Union shortly before and again just after the fall of the Iron Curtain and the Berlin Wall in 1989.

Bice shared sweet rolls and coffee with the SORE fellowship, including Ray Harden, Lou Hoger, Jeff Stewart, Dale Schumacher, Larry Laborde, Wayde Burkhart, Gary Becker and Andy Bambrick.
