Leland Godwin, 93, of Perry passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021, at the Perry Lutheran Homes King’s Garden Campus in Perry, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 5 at 1 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care in Perry. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 4 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. Everyone is encouraged to wear face coverings and practice social distancing while attending visitation and services.

Leland Richard Godwin was born Aug. 12, 1927, in Melcher, Iowa, to Harold and Mary (Jenkins) Godwin.

He graduated from Woodward High School with the class of 1946.

Leland served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was united in marriage to Grace Evelyn Luke at the Woodward United Methodist Church June 15, 1947.

Leland worked at Siglin Plumbing and Heating beginning in 1946 until it closed and then worked at Ken Bratney Corp. in Urbandale until he retired.

He was a member of the Perry Bible Church.

Leland enjoyed bowling, fishing, travelling, doing woodworking projects and taking care of his yard and garden.

In death he rejoins his parents, Harold and Mary Godwin and his brother-in-law, Harold “Ben” Luke.

Left to cherish Leland’s memory are his wife, Evelyn of Perry; a sister-in-law, Inez Luke of Woodward; nephews, David (Joyce) Luke of Woodward and Terry (Cindy) Luke of Woodward; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials will be given to Kindred Hospice or Perry Bible Church and may be left at the funeral home.
