To the editor:

The Dallas County Hospital wishes to extend deep condolences to Perry and surrounding communities following yesterday’s tragic incident at Perry High School.

We assisted in treating students and transferred some to a higher level of care, while ensuring the safety of our staff during the beginning of yesterday’s events. Due to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and communication policies, we cannot release specifics, including the number served.

Thank you to our team for coming together during these precarious circumstances to stand ready to serve any patients who entered for treatment, including staff off-shift who came in without prompting.

We also appreciate the support of our partners who assisted in transferring patients who required a greater magnitude of care and who communicated regularly through the process, ensuring the proper resources and support to attend to our community.

Lastly, we appreciate the outpouring of support from our partners. We are so proud to be a part of the community and are thankful for our relationships in Perry, which include many staff with children in the schools.

All those touched by yesterday’s tragedy are in our thoughts and hearts, and we are providing resources to assist staff.

Any questions can be directed to the DCH Public Information Officer Tom Harmsen at 515-776-6192.
