Letter to the editor: Iowans don’t buy Grassley’s lies

To the editor:

When Charles Grassley was sworn into the U.S. Senate in 1981 (41 years ago), this was the oath of office that he agreed to:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

This oath did not include spreading untrue accusations on Fox News about the U.S. Treasury’s securing additional Internal Revenue Service auditors carrying AR-15 rifles and terrorizing small businessmen and women.

Grassley, Iowans are too smart to fall for your hysterical, dramatic, theatrical, shrill voice. As I recall, you forecast death panels if ObamaCare was implemented.

Iowa Voters: Remember come November.

      • All that may be mostly true, but the indiscriminate use of epithets plainly displays this may not not be entirely so. If he wants to take a potshot, he takes the risk of having fire returned . . . metaphorically speaking, of coarse. So the question is who is a sheep and who is not. I won’t speak of anyone else, but rest assured I am no sheep. If he persists with this, he’ll probably discover there are many others less diplomatic than me who will show him they are far less sheepish than he thinks. I say this not out of spite but as a favor to him. I believe I have made my point and will no longer linger here.

  1. It’s high time for this member of the “gerontocracy” to go back to the farm. Too bad the Admiral isn’t much younger, but he at least has some military background and doesn’t spout ridiculousness regularly. Please, younger Iowans, come out and vote. Use your voices where it matters, and get some sensible young input into Iowa. We need our younger people’s wisdom!

  2. The problem is some folks seem to think everyone else is a sheep but them. If you ask me, those who frequently call others sheep tend to bleat the loudest. Indeed, the primary way of identifying cultists is their adamant claim to being the sole purveyors of the truth.

  3. Mr. Chiri does not back up his blanket statements with any examples. He does not dispute that Grassley threatened small businesses with armed IRS agents attacking them. Such extreme statements should not come from an Iowa Senator. Vote out Grassley.
