To the editor:

Thanks to the generosity of the Dallas County Foundation and local donors, the Minburn Fire Department put some new equipment in service this month designed to improve the safety of the public and the department’s volunteer firefighters.

The equipment, consisting of devices capable of monitoring hazardous atmospheres, is now being carried by the Minburn Fire Department on its apparatus. The equipment is capable of:

  • Monitoring CO levels in structures after a fire has been extinguished to know when breathing apparatus needs to continue to be worn by firefighters
  • Confirming carbon monoxide leaks in homes and businesses in the event of a CO alarm
  • Detecting propane and other flammable gas leaks in structures

By placing this equipment into service, the department is able to enhance the service it provides to the local community as well as improve the safety of its volunteer firefighters.

The Minburn Fire Department would like to thank the Dallas County Foundation, as well as the local community, for its financial support of this project.
