December 9, 2019

  • An officer received a complaint of a lost dog. The animal had been captured by the night officer the night before. The officer returned the animal to its owner.
  • An officer received a call from a property owner in the 400 block of N. Main Street. He asked permission to pick up trees that were being cut on city easement property. The officer spoke to the Madrid Public Works Director, who confirmed that all of the wood is first-come, first-served and gave the caller permission to take it. The officer also spoke to the manager of the tree service cutting the trees down, and the manager stated that it is their policy that the wood is first-come, first-served also. The caller said a female told him that all the wood was given to her by the company putting the line in.
  • An officer received a call that the school speed limit sign on Iowa Highway 17 was blinking on Sunday. The officer passed the information onto the school superintendent.
  • An officer received a call from a Madrid resident about a phone scam. The caller said that he was with Alliant Energy, and the caller said the resident had 30 minutes to pay his bill, or his power would be shut off. The caller ID number even matched the true number for Alliant Energy. The resident confirmed with Alliant that they would not call but send a notice. If you receive a call like this, please do not send payment, but call your energy provider.
  • An officer was dispatched to the 500 block of Milwaukee Street to assist the Boone County Ambulance with a lift assist.
  • An officer followed up on a theft investigation.
  • An officer responded to the 600 block of S. Union Street for suspicious activity. A caller said suspicious people came to their door. The officer was unable to locate anyone in the area.

December 10, 2019

  • An officer fingerprinted a Madrid resident for a job-related background check.
  • An officer received a complaint of a vehicle parked in Veterans Square from the Madrid Public Works Director. The officer served the owner a notice to remove the vehicle.
  • An officer served a second notice to the owner of a vehicle parked in Veterans Square that had flat tires, a broken window and expired plates.

December 11, 2019

  • An officer met with a person from ISU who had information about classes for the senior citizens in town. The officer took the information and presented it to the SAM Center Staff so the courses could be taken advantage of.
  • An officer received information about a person who had several valid warrants that were entered by a Madrid Police Department Officer. The warrants related to a case of stolen vehicles and vehicle break-ins. The officer contacted the Jefferson Police Department and asked them to attempt to locate the person so he could be taken into custody.
  • An officer filled a records request for a past report from a Madrid resident.
  • An officer received a call about several kids messing around at the Madrid Laundromat. The officer responded and found the kids pushing each other in the cart around the business. The officer found no damage, so they were all just warned.
  • An officer assisted the Boone County Sheriff’s office and the Boone County Ambulance with an emergency medical call in the 2300 block of QF Lane.

December 12, 2019

  • An officer transported a patrol vehicle to Granger Motors to have mechanical work and re-calls completed on it.
  • An officer was dispatched to the 600 block of S. Market Street for a dog running at large. The officer picked up the dog and with the help of Madrid Media was able to re-unite the animal with her owner.
  • An officer spoke with the Granger Chief of Police and went over information on a case.
  • An officer was dispatched to the area of the bike trail and Iowa Highway 17 for three kids trying to break into a building. The officer made contact with the juveniles and found out that they were not trying to break in, but it appeared as they were. They were given a warning for trespassing, and their parents were called.
  • An officer met with a parent of a juvenile from the previous call and explained to her what had occurred. The father of the juvenile was notified on scene, and the mother lives in another city.

December 13, 2019

  • An officer fingerprinted a Madrid resident for a job-related background check.
  • An officer picked up a police vehicle from Granger that was serviced.
  • An officer spoke to a parent about an issue with his juvenile daughter.

December 14, 2019

  • An officer provided a funeral escort.
  • An officer stopped a vehicle for speeding in the 700 block of E. North Street. The officer cited the Woodward juvenile for excessive speed.

December 15, 2019

  • No activity reported.
