Madrid Police Report July 15-21

July 15, 2019

  • An officer returned a wallet from over the weekend to its owner.
  • An officer followed up on a call at a local retail store over the weekend.
  • An officer spoke to a family about a property that needs cleaned up on N. Union Street.
  • An officer was called to a local restaurant for a vehicle unlock. The officer unlocked the vehicle without incident.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident who was served a junk vehicle ordinance violation in the 400 block of S. Market Street. The resident said a family member would be picking up one vehicle this week and that the other would have plates on it and be driven. The officer will follow up and make sure the infractions are corrected.
  • An officer tagged a vehicle for removal in Veteran’s Square. The officer also followed up on two other vehicles that were tagged in that area and found both vehicles had been taken care of.
  • An officer did a background check for a federal background investigator on a past Madrid resident for a job-related background check.
  • An officer was called to Southern Prairie Drive for a report of a dog barking all morning. The officer checked on the animals and located a new puppy in a kennel that was crying for attention. The dogs had plenty of water and were well taken care of. A neighbor said he would notify the owners that the officer was there.
  • An officer received a call about a suspicious subject laying in the roadway by Edgewood Park. The officer found the person riding his bike a block away, and he appeared to be okay.
  • An officer was notified of a vehicle striking a flower pot in front of the Madrid City Hall. No damage was done to city property, and no reportable damage was done to the driver’s vehicle.
  • An officer was dispatched to a noise complaint in the 700 block of W. Second Street. It was determined one of the parties had a valid statewide warrant from Jefferson. The person retreated to a basement bedroom and refused to exit. An officer and Boone County Sheriff’s Deputies were able to take the person into custody without further incident. Anthony Frey of Madrid was arrested for violation of a court order.
  • An officer stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of S. Main Street for a moving violation. The driver was warned for improper stop at a stop sign.

July 16, 2019

  • An officer met with an Iowa State Patrol officer and finished the DOT road closing paperwork for the annual Labor Day celebration.
  • An officer spoke to the landlord of a person arrested last night. The landlord wanted information on the eviction process. The officer recommended that he speak to an attorney.
  • An officer returned a call to an Ames probation officer regarding an arrest from last night and left him information on his voicemail.
  • An officer was called to Sixth and State streets by a U.S. Postal Service employee for a dog running at large. The officer picked up the animal and returned her home.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident who was served a junk vehicle ordinance violation in the 400 block of S. Market Street. The resident said that Teen Challenge would be picking up the vehicle next week. The officer will follow up to make sure it is removed.
  • An officer witnessed a suspicious vehicle occupied by two people behind a local business. An officer stopped to speak with them and determined one occupant had a valid warrant for Dallas County. The officer took the subject into custody without incident and remanded him to Dallas County for transport. Mark Manders of Madrid was arrested for failure to appear.

July 17, 2019

  • An officer spoke to the city crew about a dog running at Edgewood Park. The dog was described as a basset hound. The animal ran toward home when the rain started.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident at Meadow Estates about a stray cat that was doing damage to his trailer.
  • An officer was notified of a person in town who was wanted by law enforcement. The officer made contact with and arrested Anthony Frey of Madrid for a valid warrant out of Dallas County.
  • An officer spoke to a resident about a parking question.

July 18, 2019

  • An officer assisted a federal background investigator on a background check on a past Madrid resident.

July 19, 2019

  • An officer responded to a hit-and-run accident on Maple Ridge Drive. Minor property damage occurred, and a suspect vehicle was identified.

July 20, 2019

  • An officer assisted the Madrid Fire/Rescue with a medical call in the 900 block of S. Kennedy Avenue.

July 21, 2019

  • An officer received a complaint of a suspicious person at the Madrid Bowling Alley. The officer responded and found no issues.
