July 22, 2019

  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident about parking a semi in the 200 block of S. Union Street.
  • An officer was dispatched to a vehicle southbound on Iowa Highway 17, careless driving. The officer located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The Illinois family was en route to Drake University to drop off their daughter attending college there and running late. The officer warned them for the excessive speed.
  • An officer spoke to a U.S. Postal Service Investigator about concerns from a local carrier. The officer addressed the issues and stated that he would follow up if there were further issues.

July 23, 2019

  • An officer received a call of a lost dog in the 500 block of Second Street. The officer received information a short time later that she had returned home.
  • An officer received a call from Madrid City Hall staff about a dog that was dropped off after being found in the middle of Iowa Highway 210. The animal was claimed by her owner.
  • An officer worked with Madrid city staff and Boone County Emergency Management to coordinate a tornado siren issue the city was having.
  • An officer received a call about a missing person and a robbery. After speaking with the caller briefly, it was determined that the female was in Madrid, Spain. The officer directed the caller to contact Spanish law enforcement there to take the report.
  • An officer followed up with U.S. Post Office staff regarding an issue a mail carrier was having.
  • An officer was contacted by dispatch about a careless driver called in by a Boone County Ambulance. The officer was a mile behind the ambulance and the call was passed to Polk County due to safety issues because of heavy traffic.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident about rules on a lemonade stand to be set up on their own property.
  • An officer assisted the Madrid Fire/Rescue with a medical call in the 500 block of Milwaukee Street.
  • An officer was notified by a parent of a juvenile sneaking out late at night with friends in the area of Edgewood Park. The officer responded, and the juvenile ran into a cornfield. The juvenile was brought back to the park and released to a parent.

July 24, 2019

  • An officer located a semi-tractor trailer parked on Iowa Highway 17 just north of the Iowa Highway 210 intersection. The officer made contact with the driver, who had fallen asleep while parked on the shoulder of the highway. The officer had the driver pull over onto Annex Road to get some coffee and stretch before he continued his route.
  • An officer assisted the Madrid Fire/Rescue on an emergency medical call in the 400 block of Newton Road.
  • An officer returned a call to an Iowa Department of Human Services worker and exchanged information on a case.
  • An officer assisted the Madrid Fire/Rescue on an emergency medical call in the 300 block of S. Water Street.
  • An officer followed up on a downtown business served for overgrown weeds and a junk vehicle. The grass had been mowed, and the vehicle was to be removed tonight or tomorrow.
  • An officer received a call about a Red BMW traveling north on Iowa Highway 17 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle made it through the city before the officer could get into position.
  • An officer was notified of a welfare check on family members who have not been heard from in several days. The officer located the family members and spoke to them over the phone. It was determined they were on vacation and everything checked okay.

July 25, 2019

  • An officer returned a phone call to a person who had questions about an ongoing DHS case.
  • An officer met with a Madrid resident who turned in a lost/found bike lock.
  • Officers responded to a downtown apartment to assist a person having a mental health crisis. The officers along with personnel from Boone County Hospital and the mobile crisis unit spoke with the person for nearly four hours to convince them to seek help. Ultimately, personnel were able to get through to the person, and an officer transported the person to the Boone County Hospital for further resources.

July 26, 2019

  • An officer responded to a minor two-vehicle accident on private property near Sixth Street and Kennedy Avenue. The officer assisted family members in exchange of vital vehicle information.

July 27, 2019

  • An officer received a request for a welfare check on some dogs that were outside in the 900 block of S. Kennedy Avenue.

July 28, 2019

  • An officer attempted to locate a vehicle for the Polk County Sheriff’s office that was involved in a hit-and-run accident. The officer was unable to locate the vehicle.
  • An officer attempted to locate a reckless driver possibly headed to town. The vehicle never reached city limits.
  • An officer responded to S. Union Street on a burning complaint. The officer spoke with the property owner, who agreed to extinguish the fire.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
