Madrid Police Report June 17-23

June 17, 2019

  • An officer received a records request for past police calls to a residence on N. Water Street.
  • An officer followed up on a theft at the Green Street Apartments. The officer spoke to several people there who agreed to bring a juvenile into the Madrid Police Department for an interview. After the interview, the juvenile male was charged with two counts of theft and referred to juvenile court.
  • An officer received a call from a Madrid resident who said he was contacted by Aliant Energy and told he had an overdue electric bill in one of his rental units. He paid the bill and then found out that it was a scam. If someone calls and states they are from the electric company and they are requesting immediate payment, hang up and call your provider directly to prevent your losing the money paid.
  • An officer received a complaint on a property at Fifth and Market streets. The caller said there were vehicles and building material parked on the city right of way and a junk vehicle and other garbage around the garage. The officer will send the property owner a notice to start the clean-up process.
  • An officer assisted the Madrid Rescue with a medical call at the Cedars.
  • An officer was dispatched to an unknown 911 call on W. North Street. It was determined to be an equipment issue with the phone. Everything checked okay.
  • An officer assisted with a civil standby in the 500 block of S. State Street.

June 18, 2019

  • An officer mailed a notice of ordinance violations to a resident in the 400 block of W. Fifth Street.
  • An officer received a complaint of loud music in the 500 block of Milwaukee Street. The officer made contact with the person and asked him to turn it down, which he did.
  • An officer followed up on a theft case from last week. The officer passed on information to the Altoona Police Department, Osceola Police Department, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and a department in Kansas City for crimes that occurred in their jurisdiction. Several felony charges are pending in Madrid.
  • An officer received a complaint from a Madrid resident regarding debris in the parking, consisting of a tire and a mattress, in the 700 block of S. Union Street. The officer left a business card on the door asking for removal when nobody was found home.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident who reported his son’s bike was stolen from the school while he attended practice. He said his wife had already made a post on Facebook  so people could be on the lookout. A short time later, the resident called back and stated that the bike was located. The officer assisted with the returns of the bike to its owner.
  • An officer responded to a medical call at the Madrid Home.

June 19, 2019

  • An officer filled a records request for a Madrid resident.
  • An officer spoke with an Iowa DCI agent at the Lakeside Casino and shared information on an ongoing theft case. The officer sent the agent information for criminal charges in their jurisdiction to be investigated and charged.
  • An officer sent up three felony warrants to be signed and issued in an on-going theft case in Madrid.
  • An officer towed an abandoned vehicle from the Market of Madrid. The vehicle was tagged, and the vehicle owner was given a 30-day notice from the landowner May 17.
  • An officer spoke to someone regarding a report of theft and criminal mischief in the 500 block of S. State Street. The officer will investigate the allegations.
  • An officer stopped a vehicle in the 300 block of N. Kennedy Street. The driver was warned for improper lamps.

June 20, 2019

  • An officer spoke to the head of security at Prairie Meadows and exchanged information on an ongoing case.
  • An officer assisted a Madrid resident with getting into a residence after the resident was accidentally locked out in the 600 block of S. Water Street.
  • An officer received two records requests from Madrid residents. The officer was unable to fill one because the information requested is not a public record, and the second one was forwarded to the Madrid City Clerk due to its not being a police issue.
  • An officer received a call from a mother who reported that her daughter called her 25 minutes previously and said a suspicious person took pictures of their house. The officer received a description of the suspicious person but was unable to locate the person because of the time delay.

June 22, 2019

  • An officer assisted a motorist with an unlock at the Madrid Home.
  • An officer responded to Meadow Estates regarding a domestic disturbance. It was determined that it was a verbal dispute only.
  • An officer arrested Robert Smith of Meadow Estates, #66, for violation of a Polk County protective no-contact order.
  • Officers assisted a motorist with a disabled vehicle.
  • An officer responded to the Madrid Historical Museum regarding an alarm that was determined to be false.
  • Officers responded downtown for a large group of juveniles inside the old theater building. The juveniles were issued trespassing warning and released to family.

June 23, 2019

  • An officer responded to a residence in the 800 block of S. State Street. The incident was determined to be a civil matter.
  • An officer assisted the Madrid Rescue and Boone County EMS with an emergent medical incident at the Church of Christ.
  • An officer took a fireworks complaint but was unable to locate the source before the fireworks ceased.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
