June 24, 2019

  • An officer assisted the Madrid Fire/Rescue on a medical call in the 200 block of E. North Street.
  • An officer followed up on an on-going felony theft case with several different departments that are also involved.
  • An officer received a call about a branch in the road on N. Main Street. The officer moved the branch onto the parking.
  • An officer assisted Casey’s employees with removing an unwanted female from the store.
  • An officer did a welfare check on E. 21st Street. Everything checked out okay.
  • An officer checked on a suspicious vehicle parked at the fireworks stand in town.

June 25, 2019

  • An officer exchanged evidence with a detective from the Altoona Police Department. The detective was able to file a first-degree theft warrant for a person related to a Madrid case where three additional felony warrants were issued.
  • An officer ran a background check on a person applying for a vendor’s license in the city.
  • An officer attended a court proceeding for a case involving a female who was criminally charged with aggravated child endangerment. The female was found guilty on the charge and will be sentenced at a later date.
  • An officer spoke to a person regarding a found dog near their residence. The homeowner took a photo of the dog and put it on social media. The owner contacted them shortly afterward and retrieved the dog.
  • An officer stopped a vehicle on Iowa Highway 17 for a traffic infraction. The driver was given a warning.
  • An officer was dispatched to a fire alarm at the Madrid Home. It was determined to be a false alarm.
  • An officer assisted the Madrid Volunteer Fire Department with traffic while they performed equipment testing.

June 26, 2019

  • An officer was dispatched to Dollar General for an animal that had been struck by a vehicle and was deceased in the parking lot.
  • An officer served two downtown residences for the removal of junk vehicles and debris off of city property.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident who asked for a house watch while they are on vacation.
  • An officer was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at S. Kennedy and First streets. A vehicle driven by Janet Erb of Boone rear-ended a vehicle driven by Keiron Burks of Kansas City, Kan. No injuries were reported. Erb’s vehicle sustained minor damage.

June 27, 2019

  • An officer was called to Hoyt Boys for a parked vehicle blocking a storage unit that the owner needed to get into. The officer attempted to locate and call both the owner of the vehicle and the apartment with no luck. The officer left a business card and a message on a cell phone to have the vehicle immediately removed.
  • An officer was dispatched to Dollar General for a theft. The officer watched a video showing the crime. The  officer will be issuing a warrant for the person’s arrest due to him moving out of town.
  • An officer fingerprinted a Madrid resident for a coaching certificate background check.
  • An officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle coming into town westbound on Iowa Highway 210 and speeding. The driver was given a verbal warning for the infraction.
  • An officer took a complaint of a dog at large.
  • An officer responded to the Maple Ridge Division regarding an unattended dog. The officer spoke with the owner, checked welfare of the animal and determined it was fine.

June 28, 2019

  • An officer was dispatched to the 500 block of Milwaukee Street for a complaint of fireworks. The officer located no one outside the house, and the resident was not home. The officer spoke to a neighbor who had called the owner who stated he had left before my arrival. The officer informed them that no fireworks were legal until July 3 and July 4.
  • An officer was dispatched to the 300 block of Locust Street for a man down. An officer located a person who had fallen and was bleeding heavily from both arms. The officer assisted medical on the call.
  • An officer was dispatched to the Madrid Museum for an alarm. The officer found employees accidentally set it off.
  • An officer was dispatched to Gerald Street for an alarm going off in a garage. While en-route, the dispatch notified the officer that it was a false alarm and could be disregarded.
  • An officer interviewed a person on a theft case stemming from Dollar General from yesterday. The person admitted to the theft. The officer charged Dallas Hoffman for fifth-degree theft. Hoffman was cited, released and given a court date to appear.
  • An officer filled a record request from a Des Moines resident regarding a past accident.
  • An officer was called to Casey’s for two dogs running at large. The officer and two helpful citizens held the animals until the owner arrived to claim them.
  • An officer met with staff from the Market of Madrid who turned over two insufficient-funds check cases.
  • An officer was called to the 400 block of North Water Street for damage done to a fence. The neighbors spoke and found out kids damaged it two years prior. The neighbor guaranteed no further damage would happen.

June 29, 2019

  • An officer unlocked a vehicle for a subject in the 300 block of W. Second Street.
  • An officer stopped a vehicle on Iowa Highway 17 for a traffic infraction.
  • An officer followed up with a suspect in a bad check/theft investigation.

June 30, 2019

  • An officer responded to the 200 block of N. Locust Street for a vehicle stopped in the roadway and two persons arguing. The passenger was a resident of the Woodward Academy and was being taken for a ride when he became combative. The passenger’s father was notified and assisted in getting him back to Woodward.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
