September 23, 2019

  • An officer was dispatched to the 200 block of S. State Street for an alarm at a business.
  • The officer made contact with the owner, who accidentally set off the alarm while doing some maintenance work.
  • An officer was dispatched to a retail store for a fake $100 bill received over the weekend. The bill was printed on a $10 that was washed and copied over. The officer took the bill to several local businesses and warned them to be on the lookout.
  • An officer made a call for service for damage done to the fence around the tennis court at Edgewood Park. The damage was on the west side. It appears a vehicle struck the fence sometime within the last few weeks. Anyone with information about this damage is asked to contact the Madrid Chief of Police.

September 24, 2019

  • An officer was dispatched to an alarm at a retail store. The alarm was false.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident about two scam calls from Social Security. The resident did not give any personal information and simply hung up.

September 25, 2019

  • An officer performed a traffic stop at Third Street and Iowa Highway 17. The officer saw the vehicle stop on the traveled portion and allow bikes to cross, which almost caused an accident on the highway. The driver was from Kansas and did not know Iowa law. The driver was warned for the infraction.
  • An officer returned a call to an insurance company and shared information on a past accident that occurred in the city limits.
  • An officer assisted the Madrid Elementary School staff in speaking with a parent whom the staff had concerns about.
  • An officer spoke with an Iowa Department of Human Services case worker and shared information about a Madrid-area family.
  • An officer spoke to staff at the Madrid Tiger Bowl about two vehicles parked for a long time in parking lot. The officer will follow-up with the vehicles’ owners and see that they are removed.
  • An officer followed up on two cases from a retail store. The officer contacted Hy-Vee Loss Prevention to get information about a loyalty number on a receipt in order to try and identify the owner.
  • An officer was called to the Madrid Library for kids acting inappropriately. The officer spoke to a group of children about their actions and explained how to act around ladies.
  • An officer took a burglary report in the 400 block of W. 22nd Street. No suspects were identified at this time.
  • An officer responded to Edgewood Park for a report of a vehicle driving carelessly through the park. The officer was unable to locate the vehicle.

September 26, 2019

  • An officer assisted Madrid Fire/Rescue with a medical call at the Madrid Home’s assisted living apartments.
  • An officer received a request from an insurance company for a past accident report. The officer mailed the information that was requested.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident about her juvenile daughter sneaking out at night. The officer received a name of a student with whom the juvenile was sneaking out. The officer will contact the parents of that student and fill them in on the information.
  • An officer was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident in the Madrid High School parking lot between two students.
  • An officer received a report of two dogs running in the 700 block of W. Second Street. The officer left a message for the owner named on one of the dog’s tags. The owner came shortly afterward and picked up the dogs.
  • An officer received a report of a missing dog from W. Eighth Street. The officer later received information that the animal was found and returned to its owner.

September 27, 2019

  • An officer returned a call to a Madrid resident about disposing of an expired fire extinguisher. The officer provided contact information for the company that does work for the city.
  • An officer received a call and listened to a past Madrid resident having some issues and had questions. The officer answered the questions to the best of his ability but passed her on to the department where she is currently living.
  • An officer met with a Madrid resident and collected medications for the drug drop off program.
  • An officer received a set of keys that were found in the 300 block of N. Main Street.
  • An officer received a call about a vehicle that backed into the restaurant at 605 Kennedy Ave. There was no damage to the building. Witnesses said they believed the drivers might be intoxicated and were last seen driving north on Iowa Highway 17. The officer alerted agencies to be on the lookout for the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was believed to be occupied by two males and two females in their early 20s.

September 28, 2019

  • An officer provided a funeral escort from the Catholic Church.
  • An officer responded to the Meadow Estates Park on a report of an out-of-control 12-year-old. The officer and guardians spoke with the juvenile, and he settled down.
  • An officer took an informational report about a teen out past his curfew.
  • An officer spoke with a resident who found a stray cat. The officer informed the resident that the city does not have the capacity at this time to house cats but that the city is working with the Humane Society to address the feral cat problem in town.
  • An officer picked up and disposed of roadkill near the traffic light that was believed to be the remains of a feral cat.
