Margaret “Maggie” Ann Gittins was born Aug. 7, 1955, in Perry, Iowa, to Kenneth William and Betty Margaret (Lundgren) Graney.

She attended St. Patrick School and then graduated from Perry High School.

Maggie was united in marriage to Robert Lance Gittins in Perry on June 28, 1980.

Maggie worked at the Dallas County Hospital, Acute Care in Ankeny and then the Boone County Hospital.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Perry.

Maggie had a lot of interests and hobbies. She was a tremendous reader. She loved getting her hands in the dirt and took great pride in her gardening. The opportunity to sit in the warmth of the sunshine, especially with company, was something she did not pass up.

Maggie and Bob loved exploring new places to eat or travel. Near or far, they had a lot of fun together and met a lot of people along the way as even strangers were drawn to the welcoming fun they exuded.

Maggie loved coffee and toddy hours with many, and if this couldn’t happen, she was found visiting or sending cards to family and friends. Family and friends meant the world to Maggie and fueled her love for grilling and smoking meats and preparing favorite foods for many.

Maggie enjoyed taking walks, watching sports and experiencing music in any fashion.

Being grandma “Nana” was a role Maggie fulfilled to the fullest. She never missed a chance to snuggle, read and play with her grandbabies and was happy to share pictures.

Even when she wasn’t feeling well, family and friends continued to receive her love and attention.

In death she rejoins her parents, Bill and Betty Graney; and a brother, Michael William Graney.

Left to cherish Maggie’s memory are her husband, Bob, of Perry; children, Erin (Heath) Hodgson of Blencoe, Iowa, and Emily (Brandon) Yost of Perry; grandchildren, Ada and Lena Hodgson and Axel Yost; brothers Timothy (Paula) Graney of St. Joseph, Missouri, Patrick (Marcia Murphy) Graney of Perry and Joseph Graney of Panora; and a sister, Mary Kay Delmege of Perry.

Memorials will be given to EveryStep Hospice or John Stoddard Cancer Center in Des Moines and may be left at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.
