Mary Ann Holcomb, 68, of Perry passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, at her home in Perry, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 4 at 10:30 a.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care in Perry. Visitation will be Friday, March 3 beginning at 1 p.m., with the family present from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Dallas Center, Iowa.

Mary Ann Holcomb was born Jan. 15, 1955, in Iowa to John and Loretta (Smithheart) Sheehy.

She graduated from Perry High School with the class of 1973.

Mary Ann was united in marriage to Mark Holcomb at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Perry on Feb. 13, 1982.

Mary Ann held only a few jobs, including at Oscar Meyers. She started her long career in the automotive industry at Burke Ford in Perry. In 1986 she transitioned to Charles Gabus Ford in Des Moines until her retirement in 2021.

She was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Perry Piece Makers Quilt Guild. She was a creative soul who loved to quilt, sew, make Halloween costumes for her grandson and, most recently, tie-dye. She loved to move from one project to the next –maybe not always finishing the first before moving on to the next.

Mary Ann loved spending time with her many friends and taking trips to different quilt shops around the state. She spent hours learning new crafts and making big plans to share them with the rest of the world.

She was a devoted mom, and she took this job very seriously. She never missed a call, and she was always there for her kids. She never wanted to burden anyone with her problems, and she would drop anything for her kids.

Mary Ann absolutely adored her grandson, Holden. She loved to have him spend the night and encouraged Mollie and Colby to have a night out as often as possible. After retirement, she found herself in Des Moines at least once a week to spend the afternoon with him. She loved to tell everyone how smart he is and show him off to the world.

Sam and Mollie want you to give dad a big hug. There will never be a day that your presence isn’t felt because the hole you leave is immeasurable.

In death she rejoins her husband, Mark Holcomb; and parents, John Sheehy and Loretta Ralston.

Left to cherish Mary Ann’s memory are her children, Mollie (Colby) Myers of Des Moines, Sam Holcomb of Des Moines; sisters, Christine Toiaivao of Nevada and Deborah Sheehy of Oklahoma; brother, Jim Sheehy of Colorado; sisters-in-law, Debbie Vangundy of Perry and Candy Holcomb of Bagley; several nieces and nephews; and beloved grandson, Holden Myers.

Memorials will be given to her family and may be left at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.
