Michael Trevor Riggen, 55, of Adel took his last breath peacefully on the evening of April 6, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Adel, Iowa.

Mike was born Oct. 10, 1968, in Brookings, S.D., to Brett Riggen and Reva (Owens) Riggen.

From childhood Mike could be characterized as being somewhat of a heathen when all he wanted was to have fun and do it freely. Mike would crack a few jokes or make a comment that only he understood most times and with that famous side grin, we couldn’t help but laugh or wonder what he was up to next.

Mike used to love watching NASCAR at his uncle Ray’s house with the other uncles and his cousins. He was a huge Jeff Gordon fan while the others were all about Rusty Wallace.

You would rarely see Mike without one of his many Iowa Hawkeye hats or his Green Bay Packer jersey on game day.

Mike’s favorite era of music was the 1980s big-hair bands, and he  knew his music trivia well.

He enjoyed his family gatherings and talking with friends, but most of all loved being a dad and a grandfather.

Mike was a machinist most of his adult career. His employment included Frigidaire, Osmundson Manufacturing, Progressive Foundry, Wiese Industries and Louis Dreyfus Co.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Brett Riggen; and step-mother, Margie Riggen.

Mike is survived by his mother, Reva Owens of Adel; siblings, Tina (Joe) Gough of Linden, Jeffery Riggen of Adel, Lana (Mark Cadwell) Riggen of Adel and Christopher (Gwynne) Riggen of Germantown, Tennessee; two daughters, Cayanne (Kaleb Wessel) Keller of Creston and Marina (Jeremy Lund) Riggen of Omaha, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Zoe Lund, Ethan Lund, Makinzie Forkner, Garrison Forkner, Zayne Lund, Emerie Lund and Everleigh Wessel; nieces and nephews, Heather Gough, Jeremy (Ashley) Riggen, Zachary Wessels, Chaz Wessels, Joshua (Natalie) Gough, Samantha Riggen and Austen Riggen; as well as seven great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mike’s family would like you to join them in a Celebration of Life that will be held at the Raccoon Valley Community House at 1016 Main St. in Adel on April 19 from 5-8 p.m.

Online condolences can be expressed to the family at caldwellparrish.com or mailed to Lana Riggen at 1510 Greene St., Adel, IA 50003.

“I had a good life, and I had fun.” –Michael Riggen
