Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 at Canfield Cemetery near Ivy, Iowa, for Mildred “Midge” Haws, 92, of Perry. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at Murdock Funeral Home in Perry.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Ivy Centennial United Methodist Church in Midge’s name.
Midge passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019, at the Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, Iowa.
Mildred B. Warren was born Aug. 14, 1927, the daughter of Roy and Edith (Patterson) Warren in Runnells, Iowa.
She graduated from East High School in Des Moines with the class of 1944.
Midge married Delbert W. Haws on March 22, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Del and Midge owned Haws Implement in Perry for many years before their retirement.
They moved to Texas in 1976 and enjoyed playing golf and living on a lake. Midge loved the water and the sun. They also enjoyed spending time in Hawaii for a couple of months each winter.
Playing bridge and mahjong were favorite pass times. Most of all Midge loved spending time with her family.
They moved back to Perry in 1994.
Survivors include her two daughters, Sandra (Dennis) Pennington of Perry and Linda (Dan) Gregory of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Kris (Scott) Gavin of Adel, Chad (Linda) Pennington of Grimes, Marc (Emily) Pennington of Wellman, Iowa, and Kelly (Clive) Hess of Houston, Texas; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Liggett of Des Moines.
Midge was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delbert Haws, on June 13, 2012; one daughter, Susan Haws; two brothers, Ralph Warren and Edgar Warren; and one sister, Margorie Garrett.
So sorry for your loss. My dad had worked for her husband and loved him!
Great Aunt Midge, I remember you just as you are in that picture! You had a beautiful smile and a warm welcome. I loved visiting Perry, Iowa, as a kid and seeing family because everyone truly felt like home. Thank you for being a gracious host and a loving spirit. Heaven truly received an angel.
Aunt Midge was like a second mother to me, just without the discipline. She obviously thought my own parents provided enough of that. And, I always considered Sandy and Linda more like sisters than cousins. As kids we only lived one house away from each other so the family members in either home at any given time were nearly interchangeable. It was a great childhood and I am so thankful that Midge Haws was such an important part of my life. There are a lot of angels rejoicing in heaven today as they celebrate the arrival of this special lady.
