DALLAS COUNTY, Iowa — A plea agreement was struck Tuesday between the state of Iowa and Misty Bousman Ray of Perry, the adoptive mother of Sabrina Ray, the 16-year-old Perry girl who died of severe malnutrition in May 2017.

According to documents filed Tuesday in Dallas County District Court, Ray’s defense attorney, Sean Spellman, and the Dallas County Attorney’s office reached the plea agreement prior to the Feb. 4 start of Ray’s trial in the Woodbury County District Court in Sioux City.

Ray is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. before Judge Terry Rickers. She faces charges of first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, child endangerment causing death, neglect or abandonment of a dependent person and several others in connection with the death of Sabrina Ray.

Ray’s husband, Marc Alan Ray, accepted a plea bargain Dec. 21 that will see him serve at least 35 years in prison.

The husband and wife have requested to be sentenced at the same time. A joint sentencing date for the Rays is expected to be ordered by Rickers.

  1. Good! That saves the taxpayers thousands of dollars! No changing what is already done. I believe that God is the ultimate judge. My God is true and just!

  2. Why the hell do those piece of [dung] get their way? Why do they get joint sentencing and are getting plea deals? They knew what they did is wrong. They both should be hanged and beaten for what they did to that girl. Someone should give both of then the JFK experince.

    • I couldn’t agree more with you. Don’t know why Dallas County doesn’t give them what should be given. I believe God has a reason for everything, but I’m finding it difficult to figure it out.

  3. I’m so angry reading this. These people are horrid, god-awful people who need to be seperated and then tried under the fulliest extent, no plea deals and no joint sentencing. They don’t deserve the amenities they ask for. They need to be black-bagged and dragged.
