Some 400 people enjoyed dinner with all the trimmings Monday at the annual community Christmas dinner held in the Perry Elks meeting hall.

By noon the hall was filled with festive feasters sharing the holiday bounty, which included ham and turkey as the main entrees and real mashed potatoes. Christmas cheer was also served in great quantities.

The contributions of many volunteers and sponsors make the annual free meal possible, which this year fed about 400 people, according to spokesperson Larry Meacham.

“This effort is made possible by the great support we receive from many area businesses, groups and individuals who donate time, talents, food and financial support,” Meacham said. “We are so grateful for their generosity.”

In addition to the food and fellowship, the charity event raised about $1,300 for the Perry Food Pantry.

Volunteers Meacham and Deb Miller were singled out for especial praise by fellow volunteer Joelle Miner.

“Awesome day!” Miner said. “You and Deb Miller have it operating smoothly and with your guidance and heart, it has drawn this community together in donating and volunteering to make it happen without a hitch.”
