NWS issues severe thunderstorm watch until 4 a.m. Tuesday

The National Weather Service office in Johnston has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 4 a.m. Tuesday for the Perry area and much of central Iowa.

Severe storms with large hail, damaging winds, locally heavy rains and a few tornadoes are possible, the NWS said.

Strong, gusty south to southwest winds will also continue , with gusts reaching 50 mph or greater.

Along with Dallas County, counties under the severe thunderstorm watch include Adair, Adams, Audubon, Black Hawk, Boone, Bremer, Butler, Cass, Cerro Gordo, Clarke, Decatur, Franklin, Fremont, Greene, Grundy, Guthrie, Hamilton, Hancock, Hardin, Humboldt, Jasper, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Montgomery, Page, Polk, Poweshiek, Ringgold, Story, Tama, Taylor, Union, Warren, Wayne, Webster, Winnebago, Worth and Wright counties.
