Pair of Panthers earn All-State baseball honors

A total of seven harriers competed for Panorama at the Colfax-Mingo Invite Thursday.

PANORAMA — Senior Drew Taylor was recently named to the Class 2A All-State baseball First Team at a utility position while catcher Evan Taylor was voted to the Second Team by the Iowa Print Sport Writers Association.

Drew Taylor finished 8-1 on the mound with an ERA of just 1.19 in 59 innings pitched. He allowed opposing batters to hit just .184 and issued only 11 walks and four hit batsmen while striking out 83. Taylor’s eight victories on the rubber was tied for third-best in Class 2A.

He was 48-of-91 (.527) batting, the fourth-highest average in 2A. The prolific hitter had 30 singles, 10 doubles, four triples, and four home runs in driving in 36 runs. Taylor scored 40 times and posted a slugging percentage of .857 and an on-base clip of .623.

Evan Taylor batted .518 (43-of-83) with 25 singles, 13 doubles, four triples, and one home run. He drove in 24 runs while scoring 47 times and stealing 12-of-13 bases. Taylor was fifth in 2A in runs scored and his .632 on-base percentage was fourth-best in 2A.

Panorama finished 23-5 overall and 17-3 in WCAC play. They reached the substate final before being eliminated.
