CORNING — Panorama’s wrestling team came within two points of sweeping a quadrangular at Southwest Valley Thursday. The Panthers opened by dropping a 41-39 dual to East Union, but responded with a 52-21 victory over Martensdale-St. Marys before closing with a 56-24 win against Southwest Valley.
In other action, the hosts topped M-SM, 45-30 and East Union, 52-28, with East Union a 48-30 winner over M-SM.
Panorama’s Dalton Holmes (195 pounds) finished 3-0 with two wins by decision and one by pin, with Dan Jensen (285) 3-0 with a pair of pins and a forfeit, the same path to 3-0 used by Gunnar Grunsted (170) while Tyler Van Houten (152) was 3-0 with one pin and two forfeits. Also 3-0 was Danny Nordquist (120), who recorded a major decision and twice received forfeits.
Ondrej Komora (160) was 2-0 with a pin and a forfeit, with George Appleseth (132), Noah Kirtley (138) and Kaleb Stogdill (145) all finishing 2-1 with one victory via pinfall and one from a forfeit.
Trevor Carey (182) scored wins by both pin and technical fall in finishing 2-1, with Brady Howard (220) 1-2, his win coming via pinfall.
Panorama will compete Saturday in the 17-team Perry Invitational, at which some 30 ranked wrestlers are expected to hit the mats. Action begins at 9 a.m.
