Quick action by Loren Mitchell of rural Adel brought Perry Police Department officers and Dallas County EMS personnel to the scene of a one-vehicle accident Friday morning, where a medical condition apparently caused a driver to lose control of his car.

“I saw the car when I drove by and knew it wasn’t parked quite right,” Mitchel said. “Then I saw the skid marks and backed up.”

Mitchell said he saw an elderly male at the wheel of the car, which was halfway off the street and stuck in deep snow. When Mitchell, a longtime employee of Woodward Resource Center, saw the driver was bleeding from the mouth, he called 911.

The driver was treated at the scene by Dallas County EMS and later transported to Dallas County Hospital. Perry police removed the vehicle from the snow bank.
