After six months in their new location, Pegasus TV12, Perry’s local-access cable TV channel, is back on the air and broadcasting its trademark community events.

“It’s been a long process getting the cable line that we needed to air our signal out of our new location,” said longtime Pegasus Coordinator Keith Knoll. “But it is all finally done.”

We are sorry for the inconvinence.

The PegasusTV12 offices moved to 1309 First Ave. in April after 22 years in its Second Street location.

“We’re sorry for the inconvenience,” Knoll said, “but it should be smooth sailing now.” Knoll’s gentle dog, Brittany, seemed pleased to be again on the airwaves.

Peagasus makes its video recording and editing equipment available to anyone in the Perry Community School District free of charge. The only requirement is that the equipment be used to make a programs suitable for broadcasting on Pegasus.

The television station’s First Avenue offices now adjoin those of Jamison Studios, whose owner, Jon Jamison, is also on the Pegasus Board of Directors. Pegasus — its classical-sounding acronym stands for Perry Educational Government Activities Sports for Us — was founded in 1994 as a 401(c) non-profit corporation.

The station began broadcasting in 1996 at 1014 Second St.

Along with Knoll, who manages the day-to-day operations of the broadcast company, the Pegasus board of directors includes President Dan Haymond, Vice President Larry Vodenik, Treasurer Jamison, Secretary Doug Wood and Board members Terry Schnirring and Sue Schnirring.

Funding for Pegasus is provided through a cable franchise fee paid for by Mediacom and a PEG fee charged to every Pegasus subscriber. The station’s annual budget is about $40,000.

Some of the regular Pegasus programming includes meetings of the Perry City Council, the Perry Community School District Board of Directors and many Perry High School athletic events.

With its new studios at 1309 First Ave. in Perry, Pegasus is always looking for volunteers and programs ideas. Contact Pegasus at 515-465-3793.
