The Perry Elks Lodge 407 is installing a parking lot upgrade at its meeting hall at 2823 Willis Ave. in east Perry.

Local historians believe the new concrete parking surface at the site of the old Skinner’s Skateland has not been rebuilt since 1970, when the building became the Gibson Discount Center after about two years as Nixon Feeds.

The Perry Elks left their downtown location and moved to east Willis Avenue in 1993.

Another new installation occurred Friday when the Perry Elks brought in a slate of new officers in an annual ceremony delayed nearly four months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Heather Erickson became the first female Exalted Ruler installed in the Perry lodge. Erickson’s fellow officers for 2020-2021 include Leading Knight Amber Green, Loyal Knight Travis Landgrebe and Lecturing Knight Bob Muir.

In addition, Eric Derry was installed a Tiler, Joe Scheib as Esquire and Delbert Moore as Chaplain. Trustees Chad Morman and Steve Hick welcomed new Trustee Greg Haglund to their number. Larry Meacham and Jon Jamison were installed as Secretary and Treasurer respectively.

Skinner’s Skateland, located “between A&W and Stardust Lanes,” advertised Sept. 22, 1965, in the Perry Daily Chief.
