Volunteers at the Perry Food Pantry were busy Tuesday with unpacking, marking and shelving the latest shipment from the Food Bank of Iowa and a recent large donation from Fareway and KDLS.

“Our family numbers have been up all month,” said volunteer Myrna Mino Smith, “so we are anticipating many coming in for food. It’s good we can supply them but sad that so many need supplying.”

Assisting Smith Tuesday morning were fellow volunteers Laura Painter, Julie Berry and others.

The Perry Food Pantry at 3000 Willis Ave. is open Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 1-3:30 p.m. New volunteers are always welcome.

The Perry Area Emergency Food Council organized itself in 1980 as a non-profit corporation and began operating as the Perry Area Food Pantry. Today the council’s board of directors includes President Judy Pratt, Secretary-Treasurer Paul Burrow, Historian Margaret Harden, Directors Rosa Gonzalez, Jill Cook, Brenda Golay, Steve Golay and Tracy Repp and Site Manager Lou Hoger.
